Gavaskar’s statement on resumption of Indo-Pak cricket is unfortunate

While the cricket fans on both sides of the border have hailed the likely resumption of cricket between Pakistan and India this December,  the statement from India's Sunil Gavaskar is being labeled as unfortunate and uncalled for.

Pakistan in India

In his statement, the once Indian ace batsman has said [with an obvious reference to the issue between the two countries over the November 2008 Mumbai incident]:
“Being a Mumbaikar [hailing from Mumbai], I feel what is the urgency [for a series] when there is no cooperation from the other side [Pakistan].”

at this time when everyone viewed the Indian Cricket Board decision as a good omen, Gavaskar’s statement is seen totally uncalled for. Mixing sports with politics, particularly for an experienced and renowned player like Gavaskar, is indeed a sad thing. The statement is likely to raise the rightest parties hype against Pakistan's tour and may damage all efforts that have gone in for the resumption of cricket between the two countries.
