Pakistan qualifies for Davis Cup Final - Asia Oceania Group-II

A press release issued by the Pakistan Tennis Federation on Thursday reveals that Pakistan qualified for the final of the Davis Cup Asia Oceania Group-II after 3-1 triumph over hosts Indonesia

Pakistan’s Abid Ali Akbar made it possible when his team with 2-1 lead entered the court with the aim of winning just one reverse singles out of total two.

The victory is significant more so in wake of Aisam-ul-Haq’s knee injury which made the country’s top player miss out on the event.

In one of the five sets long Wimbledon final since 2009 between Federer and Roddick, Novak Djokovic of Serbia beat seven time Wimbledon champion Roger Federer of Switzerland in a well contested match at the Centre Court that just ended minutes from now.

Djokovic won his second Wimbledon title beating Federer 6-7 (7-9) 6-4 7-6 (7-4) 5-7 6-4

The match could have ended either way, but in the last games, Federer made fatal errors that went to the credit of Djokovic. Had Federer won, he would have surpassed Pete Sampras' seven wins today.

It was her day today despite many expecting the day to go to the Canadian Bouchard. But Petra Kvitová simply thrashed her 20 years old opponent in just 55 minutes to win her second Wimbledon title after 2011.

Federer vs Raonic: Wimbledon Semis | Watch Free Live Streaming - 4 July 2014

17 times Grand Slam winner Roger Federer of Switzerland takes on 23 years old Canadian Milos Raonic in his bid to win his 18th Grand Slam title on the Centre Court today.

Raonic, however, does not appear to be much impressed with the credentials of his opponent and says:

"I'm not playing a 32-year-old man. I’m not playing father of two sets of twins, which is a very low possibility I bet to do. I’m not playing the guy that’s won whatever he’s won, which I could probably list quite vividly. I’m playing a guy that is standing in my way of what I want to achieve, and I've got to focus on everything that’s there, on the situation, how best to deal with it to give myself the best possibilities to achieve what I want."

So this makes a tough match for aging Federer at 32 - but he too is not losing any hope and seems all set on course to his Wimbledon final showdown with Djokovic, who also plays his semi final today against Dimitrov.

The match between Federer and Raonic is being played on 4 July 2014 at 14:00 GMT at the Centre Court.

Two major upsets at Wimbledon in one day as Nadal and Sharapova Exit

The first shocker came when Russian Maria Sharapova was beaten by German Angelique Kerber in a well contested three set match at the Centre Court. Having won the first set, Kerber lost the second to the Russian. But then the third set was a really a set of guts and tact. The match could tilt in either way many times, but finally it was Kerber who carried the day and shattered 2004 titlist of another Wimbledon title race.

But the second shocker was much louder than the first when a 144th ranked and 19 years old wildcard entry Nick Kyrgios from Australia proved too good for Nadal as he beat the world no.1 Rafael Nadal 7-6 (7-5) 5-7 7-6 (7-5) 6-3 on the Centre Court . Thus leaving out Nadal, who recently won the French Open title.

This leaves three top seeded players in the race for the tile: Djokovic, Murray and Federer – unless there is someone else like Kyrgios who can make any more upsets.

Sharapova aslo walks out of Wimbledon after Serena

Serena Williams ouster was the biggest shock of Wimbledon this year. But that was not to be all. Russian Maria Sharapova, another title aspirant was also shown the exit today by German Angelique Kerber today in a very tough and sensational match.

After losing the second set to Sharapova, Kerber kept her wits about and did not allow Sharapova to win over her and finally beat the Russian 7-6 (7-4) 4-6 6-4.

Angelique Kerber now plays her quarter-final against Eugenie Bouchard tomorrow.

Serena William defeated in Wimbledon

I never expected this to happen so soon - but it did happen yesterday on Court One when top seeded world no.1 American Serena Williams fell prey to someone as low as 24th ranked and lost her title race at Wimbledon.

Yes it was Alize Cornet of France who surprised the five time Grand Slam winner at Wimbledon 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 to reach the fourth round - her second fourth round presence since Australian Open in 2005.

Aging Serena Williams at 32 was no match to 24 years old youngster from France and it may be the time now that she thinks of quitting in grace as she has not been able to win a Grand Slam this year - having been knocked out of Australian Open in the fourth round and French Open in the second round.

Serena Williams - Anna Tatishvili: Wimbledon | Watch Free Live Streaming - 24 June 2014

So here she comes - Serena Williams, world no.1 and the most dread player to show her strength against 114th ranked fellow countrywoman Anna Tatishvili in her opener at the Centre Court Tuesday today.

Serena who has already won Wimbledon for five times, was not in the final last year and would surely like to regain her past glory if her injuries do not hurt her much.

Serena has played Tatishvili only twice in French Open 2013 and Basted 2013 and won both times. The result for today's match is thus quite predictable.

The match between Williams and Tatishvili is being played on 24 June 2014 at 15:30 GMT at the Centre Court.

Sharapova regains her lost French Open Title

Maria Sharapova today beat world no.4 Simona Halep of Romania to regain her lost 2012 tile she lost in defending in 2013 to Serena Williams.

Chris Evert (second from right) presented the French Open trophy to Sharapova

Sharapova lost her first game of the first set, but then cruised confidently to win the set 6-4. However, she lost the second set to Halep on tie break 67-7, although she could win it easily.

It was the third set in which she was not giving in and had her eyes on the trophy she lost in 2013 and played a rather technical game overpowering Halep 6-4.

So congratulations Sharapova for regaining the lost tile - congratulations to Halep for playing her first Grand Slam final and coming too close to winning.

Nadal - Ferrer: French Open Quarters | Watch Free Live Streaming - 4 June 2014

Defending champion and world number 1 Rafael Nadal of Spain enters French Open quarters and is set to face fellow country man David Ferrer in the crucial match today 4 June at Court Suzanne Lenglen.

This all-Spain match is really crucial for Nadal as Ferrer beat Nadal in Monte Carlo just before the Roland Garros. For Nadal to win this match and the tournament is very important as this way he would win French Open in five successive times and overall ninth Paris win. It was Ferrer who beat Nadal after Nadal's fourth successive win before Nadal again took over his crown and has since won four times too.

It remains to be seen if the king of the clay is able to overcome Ferrer and joins Djokovic in the finals or otherwise. It may b e added that Djokovic is also eyeing the title being his first ever.

The match between Nadal - Ferrer is being played on 4 June 2014 at 13:30 GMT at Suzanne Lenglen court.

Serena defends French Open title No-More

It was a bad day for old number 1 and defending champion Serena Williams as she was shown the exit by Spain's Garbine Muguruza in a most un-ceremonial defeat of Serena’s career. She was beaten 6-2, 6-2.

The aging 32 years old tennis star still sitting on the top of points table has started to show signs of breaking away just like Roger Federer, who too at 32 is showing signs of resignation.

Not only Serena, the elder sister Venus too was defeated by Slovakian Anna Schmiedlova today 2-6 6-3 6-4. This marks the end of their title race quest here at Roland Garros for this year.

It may be added that it was 2011 when both sisters crashed out of Wimbledon the same year.

Nadal - Ginepri: French Open First Round | Watch Free Live Streaming - 26 May 2014

Defending champion and world number 1 Rafael Nadal of Spain enter French Open, his favourite event he has won record eight times, when he plays 277th ranked Robby Ginepri of USA Monday afternoon today at Suzanne Lenglen court.

However, the match planning and scheduling at Suzanne Lenglen court, a secondary show court, leaves things in bad taste, specially for the defending champion and world no.1.

The scheduling shows the organizers have taken Nadal's recent defeats at Madrid and before as a weakening sign of the form of the world no.1 and taking it for granted as if Nadal is not going to successfully defend his title.

John Isner described the French Open’s scheduling of No. 1 and defending champion Rafael Nadal’s first-round match on Court Suzanne Lenglen as “really bizarre.”

In the meanwhile Court Philippe Chatrier features matches for No. 2 Novak Djokovic and No. 3 Stan Wawrinka.

The match between Nadal - Ginepri is being played on 26 May 2014 at 13:00 GMT at Suzanne Lenglen court.

Djokovic and Serena Capture Rome

Sunday yesterday was a day to remember in ATP/WTA-1000 tennis event when we saw leading world class tennis players showing their form and fitness Rome just ahead of the French Open later this month.

In the men’s single category, two times Rome titlists simply outclassed seven times Rome champion and the defending champion Rafael Nadal of Spain 4-6, 6-3 and 6-3. Although Nadal broke Djokovic service many times in the first set to claim an early win, the Serbian was in no mood to give in and forced the defending champion to bow in front of him by taking the next two sets 6-3, 6-3 to lift the Rome trophy for the third time.

In the women category, it was Serena Williams prevailing like last year over her opponent – this time native Sara Errani 6-3 6-0   and winning her Rome Masters title. She has now won 60 WTA titles, moving her into seventh in the all-time list.

Djokovic and Serena now head Paris where they aim to win the third Grand Slam of the year: The French Open.

Is there anything for Nadal this year at French Open? Well for eight time champion, this year is going to be very difficult as he has lost to Serb three times in a row and his charisma seem to be fading.

Sharapova and Nadal win Madrid crown

In the absence of Serena Williams, Eighth seeded Russian Maria Sharapova was crowned the Madrid queen Sunday yesterday when she beat her Romanian opponent Simona Halep 1-6 6-2 6-3 – this was her 11th unbeaten run on clay court.

Although she lost her first set to Halep 1-6, she quickly recovered to win the next to sets. Ahead of French Open later this month, this win is a healthy sign for the Russian and a form-fitness test to gear up to meet Serena Williams in Paris.

In the men’s final, world number one Rafael Nadal finally rebounded after his successive defeats at Monte Carlo and Barcelona and won the final against back injured Japanese opponent Kei. Like Sharapova, Nadal lost the first set, but quickly recovered to take the second and was 3-0 in the third set when Kei retired due to back injury.

The victory makes Nadal the first tennis player to win four Madrid titles. I twas also his 27th victory in Masters 1000 series. Ahead of French Open, this is a good recovery for Rafa.
