Former Marussia test driver María de Villota has been found dead in her hotel room

It has been reported that former Marussia test driver María de Villota has been found dead in her hotel room at Seville on Friday 11 October.

The Spaniard, 33, died of a suspected heart attack on Friday, with early reports in her home country linking it to the trauma of a major accident she suffered in the UK last year.

It may be added that She had suffered life-threatening injuries after a bizarre accident during a straight-line test for Marussia in July last year. De Villota’s car, travelling at up to 40mph, ran into an articulated trailer with eyewitnesses saying they saw it suddenly accelerate.

She was due to appear at a conference on Friday entitled “What Really Matters”. The conference was suspended according to reports in Spain.

Her death has cast shadows on the Sunday's Japanese Grand Prix.

A statement on De Villota’s Facebook page, signed by her family, read: “Dear friends: María has left us. She had to go to heaven like all angels. We are thankful to God for the extra year and a half that he left her with us.”

Vettel Dominates Bahrain GP Formula 1

Much to the disgust of Fernando Alonso who stood eighth after suffering a rear wing failure, it was Sebastian Vettel who dominated the Bahrain GP Formula 1 Sunday who clocked 1 hr 36 min 00.498 secs.

It was Vettel's second win in four races this year for Red Bull.

The world champion headed Lotus drivers Kimi Raikkonen and Romain Grosjean, who denied Paul di Resta a first career podium in the closing laps. The Scot had, like Raikkonen, done one fewer pit stops than the other leading runners but could not hold Grosjean.

Lewis Hamilton took fifth for Mercedes.

As for Alonso, his wing panel twice became stuck open when he used his DRS overtaking aid, forcing him to pit both times for mechanics adjust it. At the first, Ferrari mechanics banged it shut, but it stuck again as soon as he used it on the next lap and he had to stop again to have it knocked back into place.

Result:
1. Sebastian Vettel (Ger) Red Bull 1hr 36min 00.498secs
2. Kimi Raikkonen (Fin) Lotus +00:09.111
3. Romain Grosjean (Fra) Lotus 00:19.507
4. Paul Di Resta (GB) Force India 00:21.727
5. Lewis Hamilton (GB) Mercedes 00:35.230
6. Sergio Perez (Mex) McLaren 00:35.998
7. Mark Webber (Aus) Red Bull 00:37.244
8. Fernando Alonso (Spa) Ferrari 00:37.574
9. Nico Rosberg (Ger) Mercedes 00:41.126
10. Jenson Button (GB) McLaren 00:46.631

Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso was the fastest in the third and final Formula One practice session for the Bahrain Grand Prix.

Looking for his second consecutive victory after ending a 12-race drought in China last weekend, Alonso completed a lap in 1:33.247 to finish 0.101 head of three-time defending F1 champion Sebastian Vettel.

As for Red Bull teammate Mark Webber, he was third fastest, with Lotus driver Kimi Raikkonen finishing fourth. Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton was fifth but his session came to an end when he damaged his left back tire.

A different driver has topped the three sessions, suggesting a wide open race Sunday that has been overshadowed by anti-government protesters who are demanding a greater say in the divided Gulf nation.

The Bahrain Grand Prix 2013 Formula 1 race will take place at the Bahrain International Circuit located in the city of Sakhir, Bahrain on Sunday 21  April at 12:00 GMT.

Hamilton claims he was Dumped by McLaren for visiting Mercedes

Hamilton's fourteen years old association with McLaren comes to an end for visiting his former team Mercedes.
Hamilton: McLaren days

'I went to see them in Australia but I also tried to see them in Jerez, at the test, and there (McLaren's sporting director) Sam Michael threw me out of the garage - That wasn’t very positive and I don’t feel very good about that,' said Hamilton, who was speaking to the official Formula One website.

The British driver now seals a three-year deal at Mercedes.

Hamilton's controversial switch appears to have worked in his favour with Mercedes having the upper hand over McLaren in the early stages of this season.

Title race is very open - Says Ferrari's Fernando Alonso (after Chinese GP victory)

A jubilant Ferrari's Fernando Alonso said after his dominant Chinese Grand Prix victory that the world championship fight was "very open".

The Spaniard's first win of 2013 puts him third behind Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel and Lotus's Kimi Raikkonen.

It may be added that Vettel finished fourth in China after choosing a different strategy from the front-runners because his car did not have the pace to qualify at the front.

Alonso said:
"We need to wait until maybe after the summer break or something like that to clearly see the real contenders."
"Hopefully we are in that group after the summer. Hopefully Felipe [Massa, his Ferrari team-mate] can be in that group as well; that will mean that the car is going well, and I think at the moment Lotus, Red Bull and Mercedes are in the same position as us, let's say."

Dakar Car Rally: An inhospitable track and drivers' resolve to conquer it

Dakar Car Rally that ends 20 January continues to test the determination and resolve of the top class drivers from around the world over the most inhospitable tracts of desert and dunes.

Although not witnessed by many visitors in the wilderness, but those who can witness only see something whizzing across the scorched earth, leaving a long trail of exhaust fumes in its wake.

The two week long race that commenced from Peru will involve drivers racing through 5,600 miles (9,000km) long journey over extreme mountain and desert terrain that will take them through the south of the country, across the border into Argentina, and finally into Chile where they hope to cross the finish line in Santiago.

-->

While many are successfully making their way forward, some are unlucky when their vehicles turn turtle or just get struck head up in the sand.

34th Dakar Car Rally: Watch Free Live Streaming | Monday 7 January 2013

Dakar Car Rally is one of the most awaited and watched car rallies that go around the world each year. It is known for its rugged desert passes, sanding throwing cars, some even stuck into loose sand or even go turtle.

But despite the hazards, those who dare, do drive through the desolate tracts of deserts and wastelands to contest one of the most contested car rallies of the Motorsport.

The Dakar Car Rally for the year 2013 has already started with effect from Saturday, 5th January. In all, 459 vehicles will blast their way from the Peruvian capital of Lima on their way to the finish line in Santiago, Chile on January 20.

The race that originated in 1978, when it traditionally started from Paris on New Year's Day and made its way to Africa, has been run on South American soil over the past five years as a result of security issues that hit the original route.

However, this year's edition has already come in for criticism after paleontologists warned that the heavy duty vehicles will once again pose a serious risk to whale and dolphin fossils dating back more than 20 million years.

The race begins for the first time on the desert sands south of Lima before gradually becoming more difficult as it enters Argentinian soil and a series of dangerous stages through valleys and canyons.

So let us watch the drive through desrts of South America and enjoy one of the most adventurous, thrilling and exciting car rallies every day as it happens.

Watch live the two segments of the Dakar Car Rally, scheduled on Monday, 7 January 2013 at 19:00  GMT and 22:00 GMT.

Vettel's to lose after seizing lead

Reigning champion Sebastian Vettel heads into the last four races of the season knowing the momentum is with him and his fate in his own hands after a commanding win in South Korea.

The Red Bull driver secured a third win on the trot on Sunday and in doing so leapfrogged Ferrari's Fernando Alonso at the top of the drivers' standings, in what looks like a two-horse race now for the title.

The chasing McLarens of Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button endured a dreadful weekend at Yeongam. Hamilton was 10th while his fellow Briton was dumped out the race moments after the start by an apologetic Kamui Kobayashi.

Player's Profile: Michael Schumacher - the Pele of Motorsport

Recently Roger Federer made headlines for winning the Wimbledon title for the seventh time.

The Pele of MotorSport;  Michael Schumacher
Likewise, when we talk of Motorsport, the name of Michael Schumacher stands out prominently as he too has won the World Champion for seven times.

Born at Hurth-Hermulheim,  North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany 3 Janurary 1969, Michael Schumacher, who drives for the Mercedes team, is no doubt one of the greatest Formula 1 drivers of all times, like Muhammad Ali of Boxing, Pele of Football, Woods of Golf, and of course Federer of tennis.

In 2002 he became the only driver in Formula One history to finish in the top three in every race of a season and then also broke the record for most consecutive podium finishes. In fact, Michael Schumacher has won more world championship and races than any other driver.

Schumacher made his debut drive for Jordan at Spa in 1991 and rocked the Formula 1. He then went on to drive for Benetton 1991-1995, Ferrari 1996-2006 and finally for Mercedes in 2010.

In 1995 Michael became the youngest double Formula 1 World Champion (1994 and 1995 seasons) of the time ever. His sixth title in 2003 beat Juan Manuel Fangio's long standing record of five championships from the 1950s. Michael's last championship title in 2004 was secured before the season end, taking his total number of titles to 7. Memorably, he did this by finishing 2nd at Spa in Belgium, in Ferrari's 700th race, to accumulate enough points to seal the deal.

Michael also holds the F1 records for: most career wins (91), most wins in a season, most career pole positions, most points during a season (148 in 2004), most consecutive world championships (5), most consecutive race wins (2004), most podium finsihes (154), most laps leading, most fastest laps (76), plus several others!

Michael and his younger brother Ralf Schumacher are the only brothers to win races in Formula One, and they were the first brothers to finish 1st and 2nd in the same race, in Montreal in 2001, and there again (in switched order) in 2003.

From 2010 onwards, Michael has contract fo three years with Mercedes team. Nico Rosberg is his team mate. The move sees Michael reunited with Ross Brawn, who he worked with to win all of his world titles.
Michael with Mercedes
In honour of Schumacher's racing career and his efforts to improve safety and the sport, he was awarded an FIA Gold Medal for Motor Sport in 2006.[131] In 2007, in recognition of his contribution to Formula One racing, the Nürburgring racing track renamed turns 8 and 9 (the Audi and Shell Kurves) as the Schumacher S, and a month later he presented A1 Team Germany with the A1 World Cup at the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport 2007 awards ceremony. He was nominated for the Prince of Asturias Award for Sport for 2007, which he won both for sporting prowess and for his humanitarian record.

In 2008 the Swiss Football Association appointed Schumacher as the Swiss ambassador for the 2008 European football championship.

On 30 April 2010, Schumacher was honored with the Officier of Légion d'honneur title from French prime minister François Fillon.

Off the track Schumacher is an ambassador for UNESCO, joining the other eight which include Pelé, Sergey Bubka and Justine Henin, and a spokesman for driver safety. He has been involved in numerous humanitarian efforts throughout his life and donated tens of millions of dollars to charity.

Schumacher, in conjunction with Schuberth, helped develop the first lightweight carbon helmet. In 2004, a prototype was publicly tested by being driven over by a tank; it survived intact. The helmet keeps the driver cool by funneling directed airflow through fifty holes.

Chaos at British Grand Prix despite £40m face-lift - and scooter for Mark Webber

It was fine for the British Racing Drivers’ Club man under his plastic canopy. He was steering a buggy that took the blazers, their wives and families, friends and other assorted liggers from a  sodden car park to the  sanctuary of the club house.

Stop to ask the driver - waiting and empty at the front of his articulated carriage — if he would kindly give you a lift and he would decline. You may have paid £155 for the privilege of getting soaked to the bone but a helping hand from the hosts was beyond his generosity.

The helicopter that was due to bring in Mark Webber, the Red Bull driver who lives in nearby Aston Clinton, could not take off, so a scooter was sent out to enable him to weave through the queues. He arrived in his race overalls, ready for action.

Meanwhile, in Silverstone’s  mission control with its myriad  televisions, you could watch  Wimbledon. Federer was breaking Djokovic in the fourth set on one screen and the punters were bumper to bumper on another. Strawberries and cream, anyone?
