Serena Williams, the Wimbledon Queen 2012 and world no. 4 found her fellow American Coco a bit difficult to handle, but ultimately preveialed upon her 7-5, 6-3 to win and retain her Stanford Classic tennis tourmaline title.
This was Coco Vandeweghe's first WTA final, but the 21 years old 6-1 tall Coco found Serena, 9 years older to her, too experienced to defeat. Despite 20 winners, she committed 25 unforced errors to lose her first ever WTA final.
It was Serena's 43rd career title, tying her with her older sister Venus for the most titles among active players on the WTA tour. The world number four has now won 28 out of her last 29 matches.
