Serena Williams defeated fellow American Sloane Stephens 6-4, 6-3 to gain the semifinals at the Brisbane International on Thursday in what is being called a battle of powerful ground strokes. On the other hand, the Belarusian beat Kazakh Ksenia Pervak 6-1, 6-0.

Azarenka is looking forward to the match-up against Williams.”Well, it’s a tough match, there is no question about it. I’m looking forward to it. It’s going to be a great test for the Australian Open.”

These two players last met competitively at the WTA Championships in Istanbul, where Serena clinched a 6-4 6-4 victory. Williams holds a career 11-1 record against Azarenka.

The WTA Brisbane semis match between Williams and Azarenka is scheduled for Friday 4 January 2013 at 09:00 GMT.
