
Saturday was dark day for the Citizens as they were thrashed by 15th placed Saints 3-1 in the Barclays Premier League series of matches.
The Citizens made one error and one wrong move after the other for the Saints to take advantage of and win the match with overwhelming goals scores.
The Saints opened their account in the 7th minutes when Gareth Barry gave the ball away for Saints' first goal, with Jason Puncheon following up to slot home after Jay Rodriguez's shot was saved.
Steven Davis struck the second goal in the 22nd minute after Joe Hart made a hash of Rickie Lambert's shot.
After a 2-0 lead by the Saints, Citizens made a try in the 39th minute to come back in the game by a lone game of the match for the Citizens by Edin Dzeko. But City's misery was complete when Barry inexplicably passed into his own net in the 48th minute.
It was a disastrous defeat for Roberto Mancini's men, which means leaders Manchester United can extend their lead at the top of the Premier League to 12 points with 12 games to go if they beat Everton at Old Trafford on Sunday.
