Federer qualifies for Quartes after tough five-set match with Simon

Sunday was a tough day for world no.3 Roger Federer when he played his fourth round match with Gilles Simon. The match turned out to be a test of aging Federer's stamina and form, which Federer amply displayed it when he finally overpowered his opponent in a five set deciders and won over Simon 6-1 4-6 2-6 6-2 6-2.

Federer now sets up quarter-final clash with Tsonga  at Roland Garros. Tsonga beat Troicki in straight 6-3, 6-3, 6-3 to qualify for the quarters.

In another match, Tommy Robredo made it an extraordinary three comebacks in a row from 0-2 down in three matches to defeat Nicolas Almagro 6-7 3-6 6-4 6-4 6-4. Spaniard Ferrer beat Anderson 6-3, 6-1, 6-1.


In the women's singles matches, Kerber lost to Kuznetsova 6-4, 4-6, 3-6, while Radwanska beat Ivanovic 6-2, 6-3. Sara Errani beat Suarez Navarro 5-7, 6-4, 6-3.

World no.1 American Serena Williams beat Vinci 6-1, 6-3 to march into the quarters just too easily.

Today, Nadal, Gasquet and Djokovic play their fourth round matches - while in women singles event, Maria Sharapova, Azarenka and Jankovic play their fourth round matches.
