While second day of the Australian Open starts at Rod Laver Arena with the match between world no.3 Andy Murray and world no. 54 Robin Haase, the second match on on Rod Laver Arena will be played between world no.1 Victoria Azarenka and 54th ranked Monica Niculescu of Romania.
Azarenka is very vulnerable at this point in time as her performance despite being world no.1 has been far from satisfactory. She lsot three of her last ten matches at the hands of Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova at Istanbul while at Brisbane she retired before the match with Sererna Williams.
Azarenka will have to come up with her best this time as Serena is in such a fine shape and form that it is very likely that she will clinch the Australian title from Azarenka she won in 2012 and the only Grand Slam title in 2013. She lost in the QF of the French Open, SF of Wimbledon and Final of US Open in 2012.
While Azarenka will be able to reach at least to the semis, she will have to work very hard from then on.
The first round of Australian Open Match between Azarenka and Niculescu is scheduled for Tuesday, 15 January 2013 at 02:30 GMT on the Rod Laver Arena.
