World Number Two Maria Sharapova and 9th seeded American Serena Williams reach the quarter final of the WTA Madrid and will be facing each other Friday morning today.

Miss Williams beat sixth-seeded Wozniacki 1-6, 6-3, 6-2, at The Magic Box. Wozniacki was the Madrid runner-up three years ago.
Sharapova was scheduled to meet Lucie Safarova in the third round on Thursday, but the Czech pulled out of their bout due to an illness.
Both Sharapova and Williams come across each other nine times since 2004 and Williams has a winning edge over Azarenka 7-2. Last time both the players met were at WTA Stanford USA in 2011, when Williams beat the Russian 6-1, 6-3.
In the last ten matches played Serena has won all of her matches, while Sharapova lost one against Radwanska 5-7, 4-6 at Miami.
The match thus is very important for the Russian to prevailupon the AMerican to break the spell.
