Djokovic easily won the first set 6-0 in just about 20 minutes. But then the American held his ground and did not let the five time Grand Slam winner overtake him or take advantage of his superior world ranking.

The second set went to a tie break, which the American finally won 7-5. In the third set too, the 25 years old American persisted in his grip over the game and beat the world no.2 6-4 to oust Djokovic from the Paris Masters for good.

However, despite the defeat, Djokovic is guaranteed to replace Roger Federer as world number one at the end of the season.

Querrey will now face either Milos Raonic or Jeremy Chardy in the third round.
