Borussia end Citizens' hopes of entering Europa League

Borussia Dortmund got their fourth win of the campaign and made sure they finished the group stage unbeaten with a 1-0 win over Manchester City who after the defeat lie in bottom place. Jurgen Klopp had a full squad but he chose to leave out Gotze and Lewandowski as he didn’t wanted them to get injured while Scott Sinclair started the match for the English champions.

Right from the outset, Citizens did not make any clear cut chances and it was Borussia who started to dominate the game and make chances. It was Marco Reus who cut inside and drove and left footed effort which was tipped onto the woodwork by Joe Hart and then Perisic who tried to curl the ball from far out but didn’t make it on target and both team when into the tunnel on level terms.

After the restart City should’ve been in front when Dzeko had a chance to give his side the lead with a header but he headed straight to the goalkeeper. Borussia again started to dominate with Perisic and Grosskreutz both forcing brialliant saves out of Joe Hart. It was not until the 57th minute when the deadlock was broken when Blazczykowski crossed to the far post and Schieber was there to tap the ball in and give his side the lead.
