Serena Williams beat Sharapova at Istanbul

Had someone told me that Sharapova has beaten Serena Williams at Istanbul, I would have hurriedly gone over to the internet to read the juicy news. But when I came to know that Serena has won over Sharapova, I just said that it was what was in the air already.

Well yes, Serena with a  9-2 winning edge over Sharapova with coveted titles of Wimbledon, US Open  and even the London Olympics under her belt, found it least difficult to beat the Russian and world no 2 just too easily 6-4, 6-3 at Istanbul Sunday evening.

As some newspaper already said that a hungry Serena is all set to deveour upon anyone who came her way to clinch the WTA Championships while the year ends. And sure she did.

The 31 years old American has the fitness as that of years 2002-03 when she was on top of the world with all four Grand Slams - or the so called Serena Slam. She last lost to Sharapova in 2004 in Wimbledon and  has since not given away an match to the Russian.

Commenting on Serena's victory, Sharapova remarked: "She had another great serving day against me, I don't think I even had a break point. Serena is such a great champion and has had a tremendous amount of success in her career"

Spain dominates Italy to Win UEFA Euro 2012

SPAIN 4 - ITALY 0
Spain win Euro 2012

What a night and what a memorable match it was - when defending champions Spain marched into Kiev Olympic Stadium to play the Euro 2012 final against Italy.

Many believed that Italy which had defeated many odds to reach the final will have luck playing in its favour in the Euro 2012 final too as the Azzurris have never lost in a major event in its history.

But all predictions and sepculations were proved wrong.

Spain not only defended its 2008 title, it dfended it with compelete mastery over the game, the arena and the Italians,  for it not only beat, it dominated and commanded the Italians by winning the euro 2012 championship 4-0, giving no chance whatsoever to the Italians to come near to their goalpost.

By winning the Euro 2012, Spain has made history to not only defend its title, but also have the distinct honour to have won three major world titles in a row: Euro 2008, world Championship 2010 and Euro 2012.

David Silva's header was reward for Spain's early supremacy and new Barcelona recruit Jordi Alba doubled the lead just before half-time with a blistering run and finish.

Spain then added two more late goals just to further prove their point and win 4-0. Those last two goals also won the tournament's Golden Boot for Fernando Torres, who started just two of six matches for Spain as the team often opted for a strikerless formation. In addition, Spain captain and goalkeeper Iker Casillas became the first international player ever to win 100 matches with his country with that final victory.

Italy, though subdued, knew in their hearts that they lost the final to a really hight quality team that deserved to win.

So it is all over - the football euphoria that had many speculations and predictiosn: all proved wrong with Spain emerging as 'the team' which really deserves to dominate the football world.
