Football: Monaco set to make world record £85m bid for Cristiano Ronaldo

Monaco is poised to make a world record €100m (£85m) bid for Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo, it is learnt.

Ronaldo has just two years left on his contract at Madrid and is known to be disillusioned with life at the Santiago Bernabeu, at the end of his fourth season there.

Monaco are closely monitoring Ronaldo's negotiations with Real Madrid over a contract extension, and if no deal is done by late July or August they will make their move.

Monaco is reported to offer Ronaldo an annual salary of €20m, which would equate to nearly £330,000 per week. The principality of Monaco does not charge its residents income tax and so Ronaldo would become the highest-paid footballer in the world.

It may be added that The Ligue 1 club, funded by Russian billionaire Dmitry Rybolovlev, have already spent over £110m this summer on Radamel Falcao of Atletico Madrid and James Rodriguez and Joao Moutinho of Porto.

Red Devils interested in Wilfried Zaha

In a latest development, Manchester United CE David Gill has confirmed that the Premier League leaders are interested in signing Wilfried Zaha.

"He is one of the players that we are looking at - that is all I will say at the moment," Gill told Sky Sports News. "Even if we did do something with Wilfried, that would be for the summer.

This indicates that Zaha will not be available to the Red Devils in the January transfer window.

Reports in the past few weeks have stated that United are close to reaching an agreement with Zaha's club Crystal Palace for the England international. Zaha, 20, is an integral part of his club and according to previous reports, a deal between the two clubs was imminent.

David Villa to stay with Barcelona - much to the dismay of Arsenal

Much to the dismay of the Gunners, who were expecting to include David Villa in their club, Tito Vilanova has reiterated the club's desire to retain the 31-year-old striker despite rife rumours of him leaving the club, after Barcelona's 3-1 win over Malaga.

Nicknamed "El Guaje" or the Kid, Villa plays as a striker for Barca and also for the Spanish football team.

Villa has seen more time on the bench than on the pitch this season, and more than one source has linked him with a move away from Camp Nou. After scoring a brace in Barҫa's 5-0 victory over Cordoba in the Copa del Rey, he sustained a hamstring injury during training and did not participate in the Malaga clash. He missed most of last season and the European Championships after breaking his leg in last year's Club World Cup.

The club has repeatedly emphasized how Villa will not leave Barcelona any time soon. Vilanova told reporters:

"David is not going to leave. We are very happy with him. The other day he scored two goals. We've always said that he's coming off a long injury, and he's getting more minutes all the time. But he's suffering more physical problems again."

So for the time being Arsenal will have to contend with one striker as apart from Olivier Giroud with Theo Walcott's deal not yet finalized  but with Walcott's contract negotiations nearing a conclusion, Villa's inclusion in the Arsenal squad would appear to be second priority now.

However, with Walcott's unsatisfactory performance up front in yesterday's 2-0 home loss to Manchester City, it is yet to be proven whether Walcott's contract extension will benefit the Gunners more than Villa's move to the Emirates.

Lampard's parting with Chelsea seems obvious

There have been lot of talk about Chelsea's Frank Lampard recently and his contract which expires after this season.

The positive and negative indications from him and his club made headlines - and in one of the last news on the subject there were rumors that he might be retained by the club he has played for.

However, the recent attitude of the club and the body language seems quite negative and a warning for Lampard to make alternative arrangements. This has been amply noticeable in the recent 'snub' by Chelsea as the club quite apparently refused to acknowledge record and edited out the glowing praise from Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech.

Mail Online reports that Frank Lampard has been dealt a remarkable snub by Chelsea after scoring the goal which took him outright second on the club’s all-time scoring list.

It is further added that there is no mention of him moving to 194 goals to surpass Kerry Dixon on the official website and an interview in which Petr Cech praised the 34-year-old has been edited to cut out mention of the midfielder’s ‘loyalty’, ‘importance’, and being ‘as good as ever’.

Chelsea may retain Lampard

Sense seems to be prevailing in the mindset of Chelsea's decision makers as there are now gossip of Chelsea talking to retaining Lampard.

Lampard who has given 12 best years of his professional life has not been shown any green light of re-contracting as his present contract with the Blues is about to come to an end.

Lampard is alread said to be having plans of joining Italian Serie A.

Chelsea fans, who are already very hostile about the conduct of the interim manager Rafa, have grown increasingly angry that the club were apparently willing to let him leave without any dialogue.

Chelsea fans chanted 'Sign him up, sign him up' after Lampard's goal but manager Rafa Benitez says he is powerless to intervene as it is beyond his remit as interim boss.

However as of now, Lampard's future remains clouded by uncertainty and hangs on the whim of Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich, he is continuing to embroider his legend at the club.

Lamps: we want you to stay - but!!

While Chelsea fans in Japan recently sided with Frank Lampard and urged him to stay, it seems that his days with Chelsea re numbered - or so it seems at the moment.

Already Lampard is fearsome of saying goodbye to Chelsea as his contract is about to finish in six months time and there has been no contract renewal talks from the club with him so far.

He has already been linked with Los Angeles Galaxy, Paris Saint-Germain and clubs in Russia and China but hinted last night that he may prefer to stay in the Barclays Premier League, saying he feels he still has something to offer at the top level, quotes Matt Barlow of Daily Mail.

Lampard wants to extend his 12 years at Stamford Bridge, but seems likely to become another victim of the club's rejuvenation drive and can sign a pre-contract agreement with a foreign team next month.

England may lose its Pakistani Spin Coach Mushtaq Ahmed

England may be in danger of losing their spin coach Mushtaq Ahmed, who is thought to be considering returning to Pakistan. The former Test leg-spinner has been a member of the coaching staff since he was brought in by Peter Moores, his former Sussex coach, in 2008.


Mushtaq has two years remaining on his contract, albeit on a consultancy basis similar to the one on which Graham Gooch was employed before he was given a full-time role between the Pakistan debacle and the recent tour of Sri Lanka.
