Li crowned Australian Open queen for the first time

4th ranked Chinese Li Na was crowned the Australian Open queen for 2014 after she beat Slovakian Dominika Cibulkova 7-6 (7-3) 6-0 in 97 entertaining minutes.

This is Li's first Australian tile, for which she had been trying hard in previous years.

Her win today at the age of 32 makes her the oldest Australian women's singles champion since Margaret Court won at 30 in 1973 - and also earns her second Grand Slam title after winning the French Open in 2011, when she became the first Asian player to win a Grand Slam.

Her victory will push her to No. 3 in the WTA rankings on Monday, just 11 points behind No. 2 Victoria Azarenka.

Now the final of men's singles remains tomorrow which may earn Nadal his 14th Grand Slam title. If that is so, then he will become only the third man in history of tennis to have have won 14 Grand Slam titles, after Pete Sampras and Roger Federer (though Federer has gone ahead and won three more Grand Slam titles).

Also if Nadal wins, he will become the first man in the open era, and just the third ever – after the legendary Rod Laver and Roy Emerson – to win each Grand Slam title twice.

Watch the free live streaming of the men's singles final between Nadal and Wawrinka at 8:30 GMT Sunday, 26 January. The Free streaming links are given HERE.

The last grand finale of tennis for the women comes to an end today when world no.1 and the defending champion American Serena Williams meets Chinese Li Na in the finals of the WTA Championships at Istanbul, Turkey.

Earlier, an exhausted Williams managed to beat Jelena Jankovic 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 on Saturday for her duel with Li Na.

Li advanced to her first WTA Championships final by sweeping 2011 winner Petra Kvitova 6-4, 6-2, setting up a showdown Sunday between the two oldest players in the tournament.

It may be added for information that by reaching the final, Li will improve two places to a career-high No. 3 ranking. It's the highest ranking for an Asian woman.

Like Williams, the Chinese player is unbeaten in four matches. She failed to advance from the group stage in the previous two years. Li said she started the year with the goal of reaching the top three in the world.

Azarenka vs Li: The Final Battle for the 2013 Australian Open Title (Women's Singles): Watch Live Free Streaming | 26 January

The match between Roger Federer and Andy Murray is over in the favour of Murray and this breaks the secret for the defending champion Djokovic who would have been waiting anxiously for the outcome of the semi final of the men's single.

But the final of the men's single can wait for another day on Sunday to allow the final battle for the 2013 title of women's singles between the world no.1 and the defending champion Victoria Azarenka from Belarus and world no.6 Chinese Li Na Saturday tomorrow at the Rod Laver Arena.

Azarenka advanced to the Australian Open final Thursday with a 6-1, 6-4 win over 19-year-old American Sloane Stephens, who emerged as the mystery girl to knock out world no.3 fellow American Serena Williams in the quarters.

However, Azarenka received a slow hand clap when she took a controversial late medical timeout during her semi-final against Sloane Stephens, and ironic cheers on her return, before breaking the American's serve to win the match.

As for Li Na, she upset the world no.2 Maria Sharapova 6-2, 6-2 - a match score that Sharapova or even Li would not have expected at all, as Sharapova was the heavy favorite after conceding only nine games in her first five matches, a record at the Australian Open.

For Li, it is her second final at the Melbourne Park - she lost the final in 2011 against Kim Clijsters, but became the first Chinese to have the honour of reaching the Australian final.

The match is scheduled at 08:30 GMT Thursday, 26 January at Rod Laver Arena.
