A match interrupted by rain twice finally crown the Russian Maria Sharapova the Roman Queen for 2012.
Defending her title, the World No.2 Sharapova beat Chinese Na Li 4-6 6-4 7-6 (7-5). Sharapova rose from a first set loss and 4-0 down and finally made to it defend her title. The match was interrupted in the third set at 6-6 by rain and the red clay remained covered for almost two hours before the match could resume in favour of Sharapova.
Sharapova now heads to Roland Garros looking for the title that would complete a career Grand Slam.
The men's final between Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic has been suspended until Monday.
