Andy Murray wins US Open 2012

Oh boy, what a final it was that just ended - the arduous five set long match that finally brought victory to Andy Murray of Great Britain over the Serbian Novak Djokovic.

The match that just ended was superb display of playing skills and stamina of both Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic. It took Murray four hours and 54 minutes to win his maiden Grand Slam. With the win tonight, he has joined the exclusive club of those with Grand Slam titles. He also becomes the first British to win a Grand Slam title since 1936.

Andy Murray won the first two sets with great difficulty and tough resistance from the Serbian 7(12)-6(10) and 7-5.

Thereafter Djokovic took two easy wins 6-2 and 6-3, bringing the match to an equalizer.

But in the final and fifith set, Andy Murray finally prevailed upon the Australian Open 2012 champion and world no.2 6-2, to win the first Grand Slam of his life 7(12)-6(10), 7-5, 2-6, 3-6, 6-2.

Serena Williams wins her Fourth US Open Title

As was most predicted, the Olympic gold medalist and five times Wimbledon title winner American Serena Williams won the US Open women singles' final Sunday night at the Arthur Ashe stadium, New York.

Herself world no.4, Serena beat world no.1 Victoria Azarenka 6-2 2-6 7-5 in the finals that last 138 minutes.

The match earlier scheduled for Saturday night was postponed due to heavy downpour and was played Sunday night, pushing the men's final event to Monday. This is the fourth time that the schedule has been affected in the five years.

Although Serena won the first set 6-2 quite easily, Azarenka bounced back to win the second set 6-2. Thereafter, the third set was a long hard contested set that finally ended up in Serena's favour 7-5. The win Sunday night makes Serena first player over 30 to win the US Open since Martina Navratilova in 1987. Serena first won the US Open title in 1999 and is the fifth player of Open Era to have won the US Open four times.

For Azarenka, the loss was shattering and she was seen weeping burying her face in the towel. She could have become the first player from Belarus had she won the US Open 2012.

Ouster of Sharapova and Errani bring Serena and Azarenka to US Open Final

Maria Sharapova would have been terribly unhappy for her ousted form the US Open at the hands of world no.1 Victoria Azarenka Friday, Despite winning the first set 6-3, Sharapova lost the next two sets just like that - 2-6, 2-6 to Azarenka.

In the second semi fianls, Serena Williams found Italian Sara Errani too easy to handle and got her entry ticket to the final of US Open 2012 by winning over Errani 6-1, 6-2.

The 14-time Grand Slam winner, the American Serena Williams plays the US OPen final against world no.1 Azarenka Saturday night at 23:00 GMT.

US Open Results: Djokovic and Serena move forward - Federer and Roddick Exit

In one of the biggest upset, world no.1 Swiss Roger Federer was shown the exit route by world no.7 Czech Tomas Berdych. Federer, who was being labeled as one of the final hot favourites, lost to the Czech 6-7, 4-6, 6-3, 3-6.

London Olympics 2012 gold medalist Andy Murray is still on courese as he beat Cilic 3-6, 7-6, 6-2, 6-0 and is hoping to meet Djokovic now in the finals, if going goes as of now.

Djokovic will face Del Potro in the quarterfinals after Stanislas Wawrinka was forced to retire from Wednesday's match.

On the women's side, Serena Williams continued her dominance this year, disposing of Ana Ivanovic in straight sets. Serena will now play Italy's Sara Errani in the semifinals.

World no.3 Russian Maria Sharapova emerged victorious over Marion Bartoli in three sets after dropping the first set. Sharapova will now face world No. 1 Victoria Azarenka in the semifinals.

US Open 2012 - Day 2 Results: Federer and Serena Move On - Venus Ousted

On the Day 2 of the US Open 2012, World No.1 Roger Federer beat German Bjon Phau, a year 'older' to him in straight sets 6-3, 6-3, 6-2, Roger Federer would now play with world no. 25 Fernando Verdasco in the third round of the US Open tennis championship - the last Grand Slam event of year 2012.

In another 2nd round match, Berdych beat Zop in straights too, 6-1, 6-4 and 6-2.

In a major upset on Day-2, the elder Williams, the American Venus Williams met the same fate as in Wimbledon when the German Angelique Kerber dashed Venus' hopes of moving on and beat her 6-2, 5-7, 7-5, in a match that lasted 2 hours, 45 minutes. Williams, who is the 2000 and 2001 champion, fared miserably with 60 unforced errors. 

However, in the ladies' singles tennis, Venus' younger sister, World No. 4 and recently Olympic gold medalist american Serena Williams defeated Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez in straight sets to advance to the third round, where she will face Ekaterina Makarova.

In another match, World No. 2 Agnieszka Radwanska won her second round match over Carla Suarez Navarro, setting up a third-round match with No. 30 Jelena Jankovic.

The US Open 2012 that going on Monday 27th August, has had no real upsets and everyone that mattered sailed through to the second round.

Seven times Wimbledon title holder Swiss Roger Federer (1) defeated American Donald Young 6-3, 6-2, 6-4

Ladies' Singles:

Samantha Stosur (7) defeated Petra Martic 6-1, 6-1

Sorana Cirstea defeated Sabine Lisicki (16) 4-6, 6-2, 6-2

Kristyna Pliskova defeated Julia Goerges (18) 7-6 (7-4), 6-1

And finally Russian Maria Sharapova, who is seeking her second Grnad Slam of the YEar after French Open, beat Melinda Czink of Hungary 6-2, 6-2.
