Maria Sharapova shattered hopes of a Williams sisters double act at the WTA's Rome International by breezing past Venus Williams 6-4 6-3 on Friday to reach the semi-finals. However, Serena may be there in the finals to meet the Russian in the finals as she advaced from the quarters easily after her opponent Flavia Pennetta withdrew with a right wrist injury right in the first set.
Sharapova's oppnent Kerber upset fourth-seeded Czech Petra Kvitova 7-6 (7-2) 1-6 6-1, friday.
