The visiting New Zealand team begins its first test match against the hosts Sri Lanka at the Galle International Stadium from 17 to 21 November.
The visitors had a tough time battling the weather and the Sri Lanka in the five ODIs they played and ended up in a 4-0 series loss (one of the match was washed away by the rains). The monsoon that continues in November, the match is likely to be disturbed by the rains.
Having had a clean sweep in the ODIs, Sri Lanka will also like a 2-0 win. And if they win the toss, they would certainly like to bat first and try to give as big a target to the visitors that ensures a victory. So it will be batsmen, followed by the spinners that will do the magic for the hosts.
As for the visitors, they would be relying on their fast bowlers who will be assisted by the evening rains, that freshens up the pitch for the next morning. If the hosts are batting first, the evening rains may help the visitors - but remember the hosts are playing on home wickets, very well known to them.
