When Nadal beat Federer in the quartes of the ongoing Indian Wells tennis, it was considered a big setback of the tournament - but then aging Federer at 31 years was struggling with a back injury and his low performance could be justified.
But when seventh seed Argentinian Juan Martin del Potro beat Novak Djokovic in Indian Wells semis Saturday, Djokovic did not have any justification as he was in his form and 22-match winning run.
It was Djokovic's first defeat on tour since he lost to Sam Querrey at the Paris Masters in October.
But Potro proved too much for the Serbia in a superb match, when having lost the first set to the Serbia, he fianlly won the match 4-6 6-4 6-4 to set up a final against Rafael Nadal in Indian Wells.
It may be added that Nadal, ranked fifth following his prolonged absence, beat Berdych to move into the Indian Wells final.
