Nadal sets date with Djokovic for US Open Tennis Final

Saturday 7th September saw two of the great semi finals being played at the Arthur Ashe stadium at Flushing Meadows, New York when the world nos 1 and 2 clashed with their opponents and won.

In the first semi final, world no.1 and the defending champion Novak Djokovic of Serbia beat Swiss Wawrinka 2-6 7-6 (7-4) 3-6 6-3 6-4 to qualify for his fourth straight US Open final.

Djokovic came back from a set and a break down - as he had against the Swiss ninth seed at the Australian Open in January - to win 2-6 7-6 (7-4) 3-6 6-3 6-4.

The match saw some of the most fantastic rallies between the two and a brilliant match peaked with an incredible 21-minute game at 1-1 in the decider, which saw Wawrinka  fight off five break points and both men pause at one point to take the applause of 23,000 spectators on Arthur Ashe Stadium.

In the second semi final, world no.2 Rafael Nadal of Spain powered past France's Richard Gasquet 6-4 7-6 (7-1) 6-2 to set up a US Open final against world number one Novak Djokovic. Nadal thus extended his unbeaten run on hard courts this year to 21 matches - despite dropping serve for the first time in the tournament.

It may be added that it was in 2010 that Nadal beat Novak Djokovic 6–4, 5–7, 6–4, 6–2 in the final to win his only US Open title so far.
