For Button, it is his third victory and sixth podium of the season, his last win coming at the Belgium Grand Prix GP. It is also Button's 15th Formula One F1 career win.

For McLaren-Mercedes, it is the team's seventh win of the 2012 Formula One season, and 182nd triumph all-time.

Mark Webber (Red Bull) finished fourth with Nico Hulkenberg (Force India) rounding out the top-five finishers.

Sebastian Vettel finished sixth to take his third world championship in a row, and become the youngest Formula one F1 three time winner ever eclipsing Ayrton Senna's feat.

Michael Schumacher finished seventh, surviving contact with Kamui Kobayashi in the final laps to take seventh in his final GP.

An incident to mention came on lap 56, when Lewis Hamilton (McLaren), leader at the time, and Nico Hulkenberg (Force India) came together shattering Hamilton's front suspension in his final race for McLaren. Hulkenberg was determined to be at fault, yielding a drive through penalty from the Stewards for what appeared to be a racing incident.
