Top seed world no. 5 Rafael Nadal of Spain advanced to the Brazil Open 2013 Saturday to face former World No. 3 David Nalbandian in the Sao Paulo final Sunday afternoon today.
After appearing in active tennis since his exit from Wimledon 2012, Nadal had a shock defeat to world number 73 Horacio Zeballos at the VTR Open in Vina del Mar Chile, and found it difficult to move to Sao Paulo final after he was given a tough time by Argentina’s Martin Alund 6-3, 6-7(2), 6-1 in the semis.
David Nalbandian advanced to his 24th tour-level final as he defeated Italy’s Simone Bolelli 6-3, 7-5.
After losing his first two meetings with Nalbandian, Nadal has won their past four contests, winning most recently in the BNP Paribas Open quarter-finals last year in Indian Wells.
Today's final is important for Nadal to win to start coming back to tennis as now major events are coming ahead.
The match is scheduled at 15:00 GMT Sunday, 17 February 2013 at Sao Paulo.
