Oldest practicing gymnast - the Super Fit Granny

One comes across many people still in their 50s or 60s lamneting that they have become old and that it is time for them to rest.

But getting old is just a mindset or psychological. There are men and women much older that these ages who are not only keeping them smart and fit, but also winning trophies, awards and honours.

86 years old Johanna Quass is one such fitness enthusiasts who stunned and astonished the onlookers and spectators at the 2012 Cottbus World Cup in Germany with her remarkable feats of gymnastics.

One wonders how this looking-fragile women could keep her so super fit to perform some of the tough gymnastic feats, specially on the parallel bars, which are even otherwise harder to perform for young gymnasts. See some of her parallel bar photos and you will be amazed and awe stricken:

Dressed in a green leotard, Quass showed off her skills on both the floor and parallel bars at the 2012 Cottbus World Cup

One may say that if one keeps oneself fit right from early age, this is possible. But not in case of Quass, who started taking gymnastic lessons in her thirties and then her passion grew and has brought her to this state of extreme fitness touching almost 90, when many grannies chose to play with their grandchildren in the comfort of their homes.

She sure is a women whose state of fitness and resolve should serve as role model not for young gymnasts to remain in shape but also ordinary odlies to at least keep fit and be in form and be a proud granny!!
I am the Super Fit Granny!!

How US Women's Gymnastics Team Fell Apart in the Individual Olympics Gymnastic Finals

Everyone fell in love with the U.S. Women's gymnastics team after they won the team gold last week. And then the adorable Gabby Douglas stole the hearts of America when she easily took gold in the individual all-around.

But the team has barely done anything in the individual event finals the past three days.
McKayla Maroney, who everyone said was a sure gold medalist in the vault fell on her butt and only got silver, Jordyn Wieber didn't get a single medal, and Gabby Douglas messed up her bar routine and fell of the beam, not receiving a single medal either.
Business Insider has compiled a slide show of the grave errors made by individuals that led to losing medals and falling apart. Watch it this pictorial: Business Insider

Olympics Medals Table: Watch out for England and Russia

While China seems to have finally consolidated its top position on the Olympics medals table, England and Russia are changing the race quite fast in these couple of days. From 18 golds yesterday morning, GB has added four more and is inching towards USA - though it may be unlikely that they may go very near.

China lamented the falling of its here Tuesday, as Lui Xiang, the 2004 gold medalist in the men’s 110-meter hurdles, was eliminated in the opening heats for the second straight Olympics. He clipped the first hurdle and limped off the track.

Cyclist Chris Hoy helped Britain surpass its gold and overall medal total from Beijing in 2008 by winning the men’s keirin. It was Hoy’s sixth Olympic gold, a British record.

Russia has passed over France with its superb performance in women events of gymnastics and is now at no.5 threatening South Korea.

Netherlands won gold in men's event of gymnastics and what a wonderful gold winning performance by  Epke Zonderland on high bar. This is the first medal for a Dutch man and only the second Olympic medal overall for the Netherlands.

Japan Inquiry Shakes Up Men's Team Medal Standings in Olympic Gymnastics

The Chinese won their second straight Olympic title in men's gymnastics and third and in four games in a rout Monday, making fools of everyone who wrote them off after a dismal performance in qualifying.
"We don't have any faults. That's our secret to beat the Japanese and to beat everyone," Zhang Chenglong said. "In preliminaries, we had a little bit of faults. But tonight was completely perfect."
But , it took five minutes and a video review to sort out the silver and bronze medalists after Japan questioned the score of three-time world champion Kohei Uchimura on pommel horse, the last routine. Japan jumped from fourth to second after judges revised Uchimura's score, bumping Britain down to bronze and Ukraine off the medals podium.
