Olympics Medal Table - GB moves to third position

While for the time being USA and China are maintaining their 1st and 2nd positions on the medal table, there is a change at number three and four positions. GB which was at number four notch with 8 golds has moved up after its gold swell to 14, while South Korea has not added any in last one day. Team GB's Ennis continues gold rush after being crowned Olympic champion on coronation night for GB's heptathlon queen and added more gold to her country.

United States has added five gold medals to take its count to 26, while China too has added five gold to take its count of gold medals to 25. Serena Williams gold in tennis included in the USA's total.

Kazakhstan has also moved a slot above and occupies no. 8 position, pushing North Korea to no.9. Russian Federation has is not making any significant addition in its gold medal count and still clinging to its three golds and remaining at number 10th position.

The number of countries bagging medals is increasing and as of now  there 59 countries out of the total 205 showing their presence on the medals table. The last country on the medals table is Uzbekistan with one bronze medal.

Olympics Medals Race - USA tops the Medal Table

Yesterday, USA had inched very closer to China, threatening its table top position - and today it really has and replaced China at the top, sending China down a notch to no.2 as can be seen from the chart below:

There is one more contender moving up very fast and that is GB, the hosts. They have moved up a notch and sending the French a notch down  and occupy the no.4 position below South Korea. From 5 golds and 15 medals in total yesterday, GB is now at fourth position with 8 golds and total 22 medals. The presence of GB just a gold less, should worry the South Koreans now.

As for the Russians, they seem to be playing hide and seek with Kazakhstan - they are now back to their old 10th position while Kazakhs take the no.9 slot.

Would China regain its top positions? Let us keep watching Olympics!!

Olympics Medals Table Top

Well the Olympics is getting hotter as more and more countries are joining in the medal table. However, for the time being, the top two positions have been rather stabilized with China topping and USA following and making every effort to replace the Chinese from the table top.

Interestingly, of the 205 countries participating in the London Olympics, only 39 countries have registered their presence in the medal table so far, with China at the top and Uzbekistan with one bronze medal at the table bottom.

Look at the table positions as of 2 August 2012:

Table courtesy: London2012

Did you notice the difference from yesterday? Well when I updated the table positions yesterday, August 1, 2012, USA had replaced Italy in the second position, while France left behind Italy and was at no 3rd position.

As of today, France takes the fourth position as South Korea takes the third position, with North Korea not too far away at no. 5.

The hosts Britain were jubilant yesterday for winning the first gold in the women rowing event, while the men's team won a bronze.

As I asked yesterday, where is Russia, well they have yet to flex their muscles as they are at no.10.  Germany, Italy and Japan are sitting above Russia. Even Kazakhstan, once part of Russia, takes a lead and sits at 8th position. Would, in days to come, Russia make headlines?

Japan Inquiry Shakes Up Men's Team Medal Standings in Olympic Gymnastics

The Chinese won their second straight Olympic title in men's gymnastics and third and in four games in a rout Monday, making fools of everyone who wrote them off after a dismal performance in qualifying.
"We don't have any faults. That's our secret to beat the Japanese and to beat everyone," Zhang Chenglong said. "In preliminaries, we had a little bit of faults. But tonight was completely perfect."
But , it took five minutes and a video review to sort out the silver and bronze medalists after Japan questioned the score of three-time world champion Kohei Uchimura on pommel horse, the last routine. Japan jumped from fourth to second after judges revised Uchimura's score, bumping Britain down to bronze and Ukraine off the medals podium.
