England's captain Gerrard and defender Walker to miss England v Chile match

The international friendly match between England and Chile  scheduled for Friday 15th November at Wembley would be marred by the absence of England's captain Gerrard and defender Walker.

Both players are suffering from injuries that is the excuse for their absence form Wembly.

Captain and the midfielder Gerrard, 33, aggravated a hip injury in Liverpool's win over Fulham, while Spurs right-back Walker missed England training on Wednesday.

Earlier, Gerrard had hoped to be fit for the Chile match, describing the injury as "a bit of a niggle" after being withdrawn 66 minutes into Liverpool's 4-0 defeat of Fulham on Saturday.

Walker, who played the full 90 minutes as Spurs lost 1-0 to Newcastle on Sunday, is struggling with an unspecified injury and, along with Gerrard and striker Daniel Sturridge, the 23-year-old went through a recovery session away from the rest of the England squad on Wednesday.

Serena exits from Dubai with back injury

Having won the world no.1 title at Qatar Open, relegating the year long reining queen Victoria Azarenka to no.2 slot, Serena exits from Dubai Open due to back injury.

Serena withdrew form her second round match minutes before the time against Marion Bartoli from France on Wednesday today.

Bartoli will now play former world number one Caroline Wozniacki in the quarter-finals after the Dane routed Chinese qualifier Zheng Jie 6-0 6-1.

This leaves Dubai Open without Serena and Azarenka, the world nos. 1and 2 as Azarenka too pulled out of the championship due to foot injury.

It seems that one of the toughest final of both Serena and Azarenka at Doha has left much strain on the tennis super stars.

The next event is the Sony Ericsson Open, Miami which commences March 18 - giving both Azarenka and Williams enough time to tend their injuries and come back to tennis.
