Pakistan's only win at Perth brings Greenshirts a Bronze

Participating in the nine-a-side hockey International Super Series at Perth, Australia, the Greenshirts had a bad participation by losing all three matches against Australia, England and India.

Pakistan humble India for bronze

But when it came to fight for the 3-4 position, it won over India 5-2 and won the bronze. A coincidence as Pakistan had earlier lost 2-5 to India in its third match on Saturday.

Australia defeated England 5-2 in the final of the International Super Series Hockey 9’s. It was five-time world player of the year Jamie Dwyer who got things going for the Kookaburras scoring the opening goal. Joining Dwyer on the score sheet in the first ten minutes of the game was Eddie Ockenden and Matt Ghodes who helped setup what was a brilliant first half of hockey from the Australian’s. The second half was evenly matched with England finding the back of the net twice through Ally Brogdon and Harry Martin to make things interesting.

Pakistan lose to England 2-4 at Perth

Pakistan’s disastrous start to their hockey campaign Down Under stretched into the second day when they were trounced 4-2 by England in a match of the International Super Series Hockey 9s in Perth on Friday.

After going down 2-4 against hosts Australia in the opening match on Thursday, Pakistan failed to raise their game against England and lost their second game by the same margin.

The back-to-back defeats do not augur well for the Pakistanis, who are preparing for the Champions Trophy to be played in Melbourne from December 1-9.
