Pakistan's Aisam ul Haq Qureshi/Cara beat Sania Mirza/Lindstedt in French Open Mixed Doubles First Round Match

Pakistan’s tennis ace Aisamul Haq Qureshi and his mixed double partner Cara Black from Zimbabwe stunned top seeds Sania Mirza of India and Robert Lindstedt of Sweden in straight sets 6-2, 6-3 in the first round of the French Open Tennis Championship mixed doubles event Friday in Paris, France.

Aisam and Cara broke their opponents three times in the first set as they took the first set 6-2 in 26 minutes. They remained strong on their serve in the second set and saved the only break point that they faced to take the second set 6-3 in 32 minutes and made the upset in less than an hour.

It may be added that Sania Mirza has got one Australian Open and one French Open mixed doubles title with Mahesh Bhupathi.

In the men’s doubles event, Aisam partnering with Nederland’s Jean-Julien Rojer defeated Russian pair of Evgeny Donskoy and Dmitry Tursunov 6-3, 7-6 to enter the next round.

Serena wins second gold in Olympic Tennis - Andy Murray loses his second in Mixed Doubles

The Williams sisters won a gold in the ladies' doubles event of Olympic Tennis. The Williams sisters beat Andrea Hlavackova and Lucie Hradecka of the Czech Republic 6-4, 6-4.

While the win brought the second gold to USA, it also brought second gold to Serena Williams, who beat Maria Sharapova in the ladies' single event of Olympic Tennis on Saturday to win her first gold in the Olympics. Serena now joins Steffi Graf as the only women to complete the Golden Slam — winning the Olympics and the four majors. Serena became tennis’ first double gold medalist at an Olympics since Venus won singles and doubles at the 2000 Sydney Games.

Third-seeded Maria Kirilenko and Nadia Petrova of Russia took the bronze by beating the top-seeded U.S. pair of Liezel Huber and Lisa Raymond, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1.

On the other hand, Britian's Andy Murray, who ousted Roger Federer in the men's single event of Olympics tennis Sunday and won gold for Britain, failed to win a second gold in the mixed double event and settled for a silver.

The match scheduled minutes after the final, brought a jubilant but rather tired Murray after having played three tiresome sets in the singles' event, wich prevented him from giving his best to his mixed doubles partner Laura Robson. The duo thus lost to Victoria Azarenka and Max Mirnyi despite winning the first set 6-2.

French title will not get Sania-Bhupathi London ticket

The French Open mixed doubles title may not ensure India's Mahesh Bhupathi and Sania Mirza an automatic ticket to the 2012 London Olympics. They have some more hurdles to cross.

Sania's second Grand Slam title with Bhupathi and the first at the French Open has made sure the pair is India's best bet at the Games, though Leander Paes is still the front-runner to team up with her in London.
Saina getting to London depends on her remaining in the top 10- ranked doubles players. She is precariously perched at No.10 and if she drops down the charts, she has to get a wild card to play in the Olympics.
