Pakistan beat India to march into IBSF World Team Snooker Championship Semis

Pakistan snooker team beat India 4-1 at Carlow, Ireland to move into the semi finals of IBSF World Team Snooker Championship in the round robin stage.

As the last-16 knock-out phase began today, the Pakistani duo of Muhammad Asif and Muhammad Sajjad first defeated Poland in the pre-quarter final, and then pushed India’s Manan Chandra and Brijesh Damani out of the tournament with an emphatic 3-0 pounding in the quarter final.



Pakistan will now face Ireland’s Michael Judge and Robert Murphy in the semi-final, who beat a UAE team in their quarter-final.

The World Snooker Championship recently concluded at Sofia, Belgrade in which Pakistan's Muhammad Asif beat his British opponent Wilson 10-8.

Now we turn to the UK Snooker Championship which is underway these days in the Great Britain.

Ryan Day eases through to UK Championships second round after an impressive first round win over Ding Junhui. and now he faces Mark Selby who would meet Day on Wednesday afternoon and the Bridgend potter is determined to repeat his opening round form.

Mark Selby beat Micheal White 6-3  at the Barbican Centre.

Pakistan's Asif defeats England's Gary Wilson to win the World Snooker Championship


Pakistan’s Mohammad Asif defeated England’s Gary Wilson in the final to win the IBSF World Snooker Championship on Sunday in Sofia, Bulgaria. Asif, who remained unbeaten in the tournament, defeated Wilson 10-8.

The match was tied at the assigned time with 7-7 frames. Both players worked pretty hard to win the match. At one stage Asif, was leading 6-3 but Gerry came back strongly and equalise the game in the 14th frame 7-7. Asif recovered to win 15th frame 69-32 to take 8-7 lead. But Gary took complete advantage of Asif’s mistakes to win the 16th frame levelling the match again 8-8.

Asif held his nerve and won the next two frames consecutively to seal the fate of championship with a score line of 10-8.

Asif is the second Pakistani who has won the coveted world title for Pakistan after Muhammad Yousuf, who brought the laurels home back in 1994. Saleh Muhammad was the only other Pakistani who reached the final of the world championship in 2003 but finished as runner-up.

Pakistan’s premier cueist Mohammad Asif forced his way into the semifinals of the IBSF World Snooker Championship 2012 being played in Sofia, Bulgaria.

Asif cruised into the last four by winning his fourth successive knockout game. He is now just two wins away from emulating Mohammad Yousuf, who had annexed the crown in 1994 and todate remain the only Pakistani to do so.

The 28-year-old Asif, belonging to the industrial town of Faisalabad, defeated Mer Alkojah of Syria 6-2 in the quarter-finals with the frame scores of 55-53, 50-63, 41-72, 78-50, 73-36, 99-26, 64-54, 82-40. His opponent in the semifinals, to be played late Saturday evening, will be Alex Borg of Malta.

Asif had advanced to the quarter-finals by whipping Wael Talaat of Egypt 5-2 in the pre-quarters with the frame scores of 118-0, 62-58, 37-62, 90-17, 108-1, 4-108, 77-22.

Noppon Saengkham of Thailand wins 2012 Dubai International Open Snooker Tournament


Noppon Saengkham of Thailand overwhelmed Mohammad Asif in the final of the 2012 Dubai International Open Snooker Tournament at the Dubai Snooker Club on Saturday, dashing Pakistan’s hopes of bringing home their first cue sports title in 12 years.


According to the information made available here by the Pakistan Billiards & Snooker Association (PBSA), Noppon Saengkham defeated Mohammad Asif 5-2 in the best of nine-frame encounter with the scores of 61-10, 49-60, 60-40, 69-9, 31-63, 74-27, 64-46.

Pakistan’s reigning national champion was in the hunt until the first half of the game, having snatched two of the five frames but ran out of steam in the decisive phase to lose the battle rather tamely in the end.

Snooker - Wuxi Classic: Watch Live Free Stream - 28 June

Taking a time out of Wimbledon, let us turn to Snooker and the Wuxi Classic tournament.


Wuxi, China is the venu of Wuxi Classic snooker played since 2008 when it was originally named as Jiangsu Classic as the third main tour event of China. The tournament was renmaed as Wuxi Classic in 2010 and is held at Wuxi Sports Center, Wuxi, China.

From the 2012/2013 season the Wuxi Classic will become a ranking event.

This year, Mark Davis sets up Jamie Burnett clash in second round of 2012 Wuxi Classic snooker event. Australia’s Neil Robertson and the 2012 Welsh Open snooker event winner Ding Junhui faced early exits from the event after losing to Jamie Burnett and Mark Davis respectively in the opening round of the event. 

Now, both Davis and Burnett have made their way successfully into the second round of the event where they will face each other for the quarter-final berth. Davis is looking forward to face Burnett and believes that the game will be interesting to watch.

The match is scheduled for Thursday, 28 June 2012 at 13:30 GMT at Wuxi Sports Center, Wuxi, China.

7-Nation Snooker: Thepchaiya to with clash Ayouri for title today

Thepchaiya Un-Nooh of Thailand will clash with Hossein Vafaei Ayouri of Iran in the final of the Jubilee Insurance 7-Nation International Snooker Championship here on Friday (today). The finalists shattered the dreams of Pakistan’s Muhammad Asif and Muhammad Sajjad in the semifinals on Thursday evening. 



Asif got the distinction of chalking out tournament's highest break of 136 but still lost his semifinal against Un-Nooh 6-2. Un-Nooh compiled a fine break of 59 in the eighth frame to complete 85-43, 55-44, 79-42, 89-13, 73-53, 37-86, 0-136, 63-36 victory. 



Ayouri entered the final after overcoming fighting Sajjad 6-5 in a marathon contest. The score-line was 5-90, 61-14, 00-80, 81-00, 5-70, 9-108, 78-54, 7-69, 88-17,69-56, 76-15.

Pakistan duo qualifies for the semifinals of 7-nation Snooker Championship

Pakistan duo of Muhammad Sajjad and Muhammad Asif qualified for the semifinals of Jubilee Insurance 7-nation Snooker Championship after victories in the quarterfinal at local hotel here on Wednesday.

2010 Asian championship runner-up Sajjad faced strong challenge from Egyptian Mohamed Ibrahim Mohamed before making it into the last four rounds with 5-3 win that included a brilliant break of 107 in sixth frame.

Following are quarterfinal results: Muhammad Asif (Pak) bt Yasin Merchant (India) 5-3 (61-47, 0-118, 98-20, 33-65, 70-57, 25-74, 64-07, 74-09) Hossein Vafaei Ayouri (Iran) bt Abdul Sattar (Pak) 5-0 (92-00,(64), 92-12, 72-30, 69-63, 56-30). Century breaks galore on third day of 7-nation snooker

Top seed Vafaei of Iran, second seed Unnooh of Thailand each recorded century breaks while registering second successive wins in their group league match but India’s Yasin Merchant seed three had to fight hard for carving out his second win in the on thee third day of the Jubilee Insurance Seven-nation Snooker Championship here on Tuesday.
Favorite Hossein Vafaei Ayouri raced through to straight frames win over Naveen Perwani of Pakistan for his second straight win and in the process recorded a break of 107 in fourth frame as score in his favouir was 73-59, 69-24, 96-0, 107(103)-37.

Seven-nation snooker event cues off today in Karachi

International snooker returned to Pakistan after five years when it hosts Jubilee Insurance seven-nation snooker championship at the Hotel Pearl Continental from Sunday.

Six foreign teams, namely Thailand, India, UAE Egypt, Iran and Bahrain are participating in the event besides Pakistan.

Pakistan is represented by an eight-member team that includes Mohammad Asif, Sultan Mohammad, Mohammad Sajjad, Naveen Perwani, Abdul Sattar, Sohail Shehzad, Vishan Gir and Sharjeel Mehmood.

TOM FORD BEATS MARTIN GOULD TO WIN PTC 11 TITLE

England’s Tom Ford has clinched Players Tour Championship (PTC) 11 title after ousting compatriot, Martin Gould, in a tussling final encounter at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield, England. The pair had a close match until they were 3-3 level but after that, Ford made a superb move to nudge his opponent down by 4-3.
The Englishman showed some excellent snooker genius during his run in the tournament. He reached the final encounter of the penultimate PTC event after beating David Hogan 4-1 in Round 1, Ian Burns 4-2 in Round 2, Nigel Bond 4-2 in Round 3, Yu Delu 4-0 in the fourth round, Judd Trump 4-1 in the quarter-finals and Graeme Dott 4-0 in the semi-final.

Snooker: Ford to take on the best

Tom Ford believes he has the confidence to beat snooker's top players after edging out Martin Gould 4-3 in the final of PTC11 in Sheffield.

Leicester's 28-year-old Ford won PTC3 last year and captured the second professional title of his career on Monday with victory in this season's penultimate short PTC event.


Ford stunned snooker's man of the moment, Judd Trump, 4-1 in the quarter-finals, and also beat former world champion Graeme Dott 4-0 in the semis.

Big names fall at PTC12

Shaun Murphy and Graeme Dott were big-name fallers on day two of action at the 12th edition of the Players Tour Championship in Sheffield.

World number six Murphy dropped to a 4-3 defeat to Kurt Maflin in the second round as the bottom half of the draw played through to the last 16.
Dott - ranked seventh in the world - lost by the same scoreline to Marcus Campbell, also in his second match of the day at the World Snooker Academy.

World number eight Ali Carter was also bounced out of the competition after a 4-1 defeat to Stephen Maguire in the third round.
But it was a good day for former world champion Stephen Hendry, who saw off Ken Doherty 4-2 in the third round to seal a place in the last 16.
