World no.1 and the defending champion American Serena Williams beat Chinese Li Na to retain her WTA Championships title Sunday at Istanbul. It was her fourth WTA Championships success and she is the first player to defend the title since Justine Henin in 2007.
Serena beat world no.3 Li 6-3 6-0 after losing the first set 2-6.
It was the first WTA final in which both players were over 30 years of age.
Serena has has won 78 of 82 matches this year and finishes 2013 as the top ranked player for the third time in her career after 2002 and 2009.
With this win, she becomes the eighth female player to win 11 or more titles in a year and the first since Martina Hingis claimed 12 in 1997.
