World No. 2 Russian Maria Sharapova meets 15th ranked Serbian Ana Ivanovic in the third round of the WTA Madrid Thursday afternoon.

Ivanovic moved to the third round after overpowering S. Soler-Espinosa 6-2 6-1, while Sharapova beat McHale 705, 7-5.
Both players have met six times in their career since 2006, whith Sharapova having a winning edge of 4-2 over the Serbian. Last time they met was at Indian Wells earlier this year when Ivanovic retired in the second set after losing the first 4-6 to the Russian.
In the last ten matches played by both, Ivanoic has a 7-3 win-loss status while Sharapova has 8-2.
What is for Thursday, nothing can be said of in ertain terms, except that playing on clay, Ivanovic beat Sharapova in French Open 2007 - but wasn't that long time before?
