Defending champion and world no.9 Maria Sharapova of Russia will defend her title with 12th seed Serbian Ana Ivanovic for the Women’s Stuttgart Grand Prix Final Sunday today.

The towering 6’ 2” Russian Sharapova is looking for her third consecutive Stuttgart title this year. Earlier she beat Italian Sara Errani 6-1, 6-2 in the semis. Her opponent for today’s final is Serbian Ana Ivanovic who beat fellow Serbian Jankovic 6-3, 7-5 to qualify for the final.

Sharapova has met Ivanovic nine times in her professional career on tennis courts of which she has won seven times. The duo last met at Madrid in 2013 in the semis when Sharapova beat Ivanovic 6-4, 6-3.

A win would be a boost for Sharapova just ahead of French Open, beginning one month after in May. In 2013, Serena Williams beat Sharapova in French Open 6-4, 6-4. 

The match is scheduled on Sunday 27 April today at 12:00 GMT

Ivanovic shocks Serena Williams - knocks her out of Australian Open

Australian Open is almost over with its Round Four  matches for ladies singles on Day 7 Sunday today.

The matches played in the fourth round take 'almost' all seeded players forward and closer to their title aspirations. However, there have been two upsets!!

The biggest setback of rated and top seeded players came today when 14th ranked Serbian Ana Ivanovic beat world no 1 Serena Williams of USA 4-6 6-3 6-3. Serena Williams was aspiring for the Australian title this year - and some even commented that the year 2014 belonged to the American. 

But Serena's ouster today leaves many doubts of her future matches. Well for now, both Williams sisters are out of Melbourne's women singles - this also brings an end to the winning spree of Serena who after Wimbledon  US Open and Istanbul felt very confidant of bagging the first Grand Slam of the year.

In view of Serena's continuous 25 straight matches win, no one imagined that Ana Ivanovic, the 14th ranked player, could upset the world no.1 and knock her out of the competition. It was shocking to see Williams pushed to the brink this early in a major tournament, and she never looked comfortable in the final set.

Ivanovic advances to a quarter-final matchup against Canadian Eugenie Bouchard. 

The results of other women singles of round four are as under:

30th ranked Canadian Eugenie Bouchard beat Australian Casey Dellacqua 6-7(5) 6-2 6-0. It seems hosts Australians are having a tough time in the competition as already Hewitt and Tomic (men's singles) have been knocked out of the competition. Eugenie Bouchard now faces Ana Ivanovic in the quarters.

Victoria Azarenka ouclasses Ana Ivanovic

Oh what a match it was - the 14th ranked Serbian Ana Ivanovic seemed no match against the former world no.1 and now world no.2 Belorussian Victoria Azarenka who thrashed ivanovic 6-1, 6-0.

While the first was also simply one sided, the second set saw helpless Ivanovic ending up her most of the returns in the net or out of the court. The 6-0 in the second was not the game what Ivanovic had presented earlier.

Azarenka advances to the quarter-final of to meet Tamira Paszek. 

In an other fourth round match defending champion and No.4 seed Petra Kvitova defeated Francesca Schiavone 4-6, 7-5, 6-1 to enter the quarter-final of Wimbledon 2012 to meet 6th ranked American Serena Williams.

Following the opening match between Roger Federer and Xavier Malisse on the Centre Court on Day 8, world no.2 Belorussian Victoria Azarenka plays  world no.24 Serbian Ana Ivanovic her round four match.

Both ladies have played against each other four times since they first met at French Open in 2009, with a 2-2 win over each other.

Ivanovic too has lost three of her ten matches. She lost to Azarenka at Madrid, and then to Sharapova at Rome and Errani at French Open recently. She beat J. Goerges 3-6 6-3 6-4 in the third round.

The match is scheduled for Monday, July 2,  2012 at 15:00 GMT on Centre Court.

Serena Williams and Kvitova, Ferrer and Murray move to Wimbledon Fourth Round

On the 6th day of Wimbledon 2012, majority of matches had their results as predicted and anticipated by analysts and fans.

Starting with the day's proceedings, Serena Williams beat Jie Zheng of China 6-7(5) 6-2 9-7  on the Centre Court.

In the other two matches on the Centre Court, Spaniard David Ferrer beat American Andy Roddick 2-6 7-6(8) 6-4 6-3, ater losing ifrst set.

British Andy Murray beat Marcos Baghdatis from Cyprus 7-5 3-6 7-5 6-1.

defending Champin Czech Petra Kvitova beat American Varvara Lepchenko 6-1, 6-0 on Court No.1

On Court No.1, Argentinian Del Potro beat Japanese Kei Nishikori 6-3 7-6(3) 6-1, while French Tsonga beat Slovakian Lukas Lacko 6-4 6-3 6-3.

On Court No.2, Serbian Ana Ivanovic defeated German Julia Goerges 3-6 6-3 6-4, while on the same court, Belorussian Victoria azarenka beat Slovakian Jana Cepelova 6-3, 6-3.

On Court No.3, Italian Sara Errani crashed out at the hands of Yaroslava Shvedova from Kazakhistan 0-6, 4-6, while American Mardy Fish Beat Belgian David Goffin 6-3 7-6(6) 7-6(6).

In the mixed doubles Australian Paul Hanley / Russian Alla Kudryavtseva duo beat much touted 5th seeded Indian duo Mahesh Bhupathi / Sania Mirza6-3, 6-1 on Court No.5

The day 7 Sunday starts with the 4th round matches and the first match that gets going on Centre ourt is between Roger Federer and Belgian Xavier Malisse, followed by Ana Ivanovic vs Victoria Azarenka and a pure Serbian clash between defending champion Novak Djokovic and Viktor Troicki.

Friday morning the Round Three of the Roland Garros sees 14th ranked Serbian Ana Ivanovic facing 24th ranked Italian Sara Erani at the Court Suzanne Lenglen.

This is the third time that both Errani and Ivanovic are facing each other in their career. In the previous two encounters at French Open 20009 and Wimbledon 2009, Ivanovic defeated Errani both times.

Sara Errani has lost two of her last ten matches payed in 2012, losing at Madrid and Rome. Errani beat Oudin 6-2, 6-3 in the second round yesterday.

Ivanovic has lost three of her last ten matches at Stuttgart, Madrid and recently at Rome. She moves to the third round by beating S.Peer 6-2, 6-2.

The match is scheduled for Friday, ! JUne 2012 at 11:00 GMT on Court Suzanne Lenglen.

World No. 2 Russian Maria Sharapova meets 15th ranked Serbian Ana Ivanovic in the third round of the WTA Madrid Thursday afternoon.

Ivanovic moved to the third round after overpowering S. Soler-Espinosa 6-2 6-1, while Sharapova beat McHale 705, 7-5.

Both players have met six times in their career since 2006, whith Sharapova having a winning edge of 4-2 over the Serbian. Last time they met was at Indian Wells earlier this year when Ivanovic retired in the second set after losing the first 4-6 to the Russian.

In the last ten matches played by both, Ivanoic has a 7-3 win-loss status while Sharapova has 8-2.

What is for Thursday, nothing can be said of in ertain terms, except that playing on clay, Ivanovic beat Sharapova in French Open 2007 - but wasn't that long time before?

WTA Rome - Ivanovic moves on in Rome

Former world no.1 and presently 15th ranked Serbian Ana Ivanovic beat 28th ranked Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova 6-4, 6-3 in her first round match of the WTA Rome Monday today.

It was quite windy in Rome today, but te Serbian was not at all distracted and produced a superb play to win over the Russian.

Ivanovic is likely to contest her second round match either against Alberta Brianti of Italy or Silvia Soler of Spain.

In another first round matche, J Goerges beat A Wozniak 6-1, 6(1)-7(7) and 6-3. The match between German Angelique Kerber and Australian A Rodionova is yet to take place.

OK from Madrid we now move on to Rome, wehre the WTA/ATP Rome Tennis championships begins Monday, 14 May 2012.

In one of the many first round matches Monday, 15th ranked Serbian Ana Ivanovic meets 28th ranked Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova in the morning. 

Both Ana Ivanovic and Svetlana Kuznetsova are not new to each other as they have met 10 times since 2005. The winning factor is not much as Ana Ivanovic has won 6-4. However, in the last match played between the two in the Fed Cup (Russia vs Serbia) Svetlana Kuznetsova beat Ivanovic 6-2, 2-6, 6-4.

As for their form, they seem to have fared miserably in the last ten matches as Ivanovic has lost five matches, while Svetlana Kuznetsova has lost seven. Ivanovic last lost to Victoria Azarenka in the recently concluded WTA Madrid 4-6, 4-6, while Svetlana Kuznetsova too lost to Azarenka at Madrid 7-6(5) 6-4.

So nothing can be said for sure who wins this first round match at Rome Monday today.
