As for women's singles, world no.2 Maria Sharapova, the French Open champion from Russia, plays her quarterfinal match against fellow Russian world no.19 left handed Makarova at the Rod Laver Arena Tuesday morning.
Sharapova first met Makarova at Madrid in 2011 and has since played only four matches against her - winning all four.
They last met at Miami 2012 in the fourth round - Makarova lst 4-6, 6(3)-7.
In her last ten matches, Sharapova has had eight wins, while Makarova have six. As for Wednesday's quarters, Sharapova is hot favourite.
The match is scheduled at 04:30 GMT Tuesday, 22 January at Rod Laver Arena.
