It was the darkest day of Pakistan's hockey history when its national team failed to qualify for the hockey world Cup 2014 since it was instituted in 1971.

Pakistan Hockey which once had the singular honour of holding all hocey titiles, including the Olympics, simultaenously has been in a pretty bad form for the last decade or even more. But losing the bus to World Cup 2014 was a very sad and lamenting day for Pakistan.

It may be added that Pakistan won the inaugural competition in 1971 and triumphed again in 1978, 1982 and 1994.

Pakistan went down 2-1 to South Korea in the Asia Cup semi-final in Malaysia on Friday, a tournament they needed to win to qualify for the 2014 World Cup in the Netherlands.

A strong protest has been launched by the former Olympians and hockey legends in Pakistan who have demanded the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) officials to resign immediately after the disastrous performance in the 9th Asia Cup at Ipoh, Malaysia which deprived Pakistan of qualifying for the World Cup 2014 and let others to handle the hockey affairs to revive the national game in the country.
