Pakistan winning the toss, chose to field. The Islanders gave a target of 146 runs for Pakistan to chase. Except for Mathews' 50, none of the Lankan batsmen score handsomely and were 145 for 5 in 20 overs. Pakistan's Ajmal and Tanvir took two wickets each while Afridi took one.
Coming to bat, the Pakistani batsmen opened the score quite confidently except for Shehzad who was gone when the score was just 12. But thereafter Sharjeel and Hafeez added 34 and 32 respectively. However by a score of 117, six wickets had fallen.
