Nadal moves to Barcelona Third Round while Top Seed Ferrer Crashes Out

It was a tough day for the top seed David Ferrer who had an un-ceremonial ouster form the tournament at the hands of Russian Dmitry Tursunov 7-5 3-6 6-1.

However, fellow Spaniard and second seed Rafael Nadal easily overpowered his opponent Argentina's Carlos Berlocq 6-4, 6-2.

Nadal is in Barcelona to win the tournament for the eighth time.

It was tough luck for him at Monte Carlo that he succumbed to world no.1 Djokovic who won his maiden Monte Carlo title while denying a consecutive 9th title win to Rafa.

Elsewhere in other round two matches, seventh seed Juan Monaco beat Bernard Tomic 6-0 6-2, Tommy Robredo upset 14th seed Grigor Dimitrov 7-5 6-1, and fifth seed Milos Raonic eased past Edouard Roger-Vasselin 6-4 6-2.

Watch Live Nadal - Berlocq (ATP Barcelona) | Free Streaming - 24 April

After losing his first clay title at Monte Carlo days ago at the hands of Djokovic, Rafael Nadal turns to Barcelona to heal his wounds and his bid for an eight Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell title.

Nadal has won seven out of the last eight editions in Barcelona, missing out only in 2010 when he did not play due to injury.

Nadal opens his title bid against Argentinian Carlos Berlocq, whom he faces for the second time. They met earlier this year in the quarter-finals at Sao Paulo, where Nadal won in three sets.

Nadal, a seven-time champion  here, is 35-1 lifetime and he’s won 34 matches in a row since his second round loss to countryman Alex Corretja in 2003.

Nadal, the world number five who stands behind compatriot and three-time losing finalist David Ferrer in the seedings at the Real Club de Tenis, insists his focus is on this tournament and not his preparation for next month's French Open at Roland Garros.

The match today is scheduled for Wednesday, 24 April 2013 13:00 GMT

The World Number Two from Spain, Rafael nadal made history to win the ATP BArcelona title for the seventh time - the same way he won the Monte Carlo event 8th time just a few days back and thus became the first player in the open era to win two tournaments seven times.

After the match, Nadal told the Spanish state TV:

Rafael Nadal vs Janko Tipsarevic (ATP Barcelona): Free Live Stream

Friday afternoon 27 April, 2012 world Number Two Rafael Nadal comes face to face fifth seeded Serbian Janko Tipsarevic in the quarterfinal of ATP Barcelona / Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell.

WTA BArcelona Quarterfinal: Rafael Nadal vs Janko Tipsarevic
Earlier, Rafael brushed aside world number 246 Robert Farah 6-2, 6-3 in their match played on Thursday to reach the quarterfinals of the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell. However, the score speaks volume of resistance from such a low ranking player to world number two and the king of red clay.

Serbian Janko Tipsarevic, who dismissed Portugal’s Frederico Gil 6-2, 6-2, lost both his past two meetings with Nadal, including once on clay, and is bidding to reach his third ATP World Tour semi-final of the season.

Nadal after recently recovering from his knee injury is play superbly, having lost only one of his last ten matches - and the lost one was the one in which he retired against Murray at Miami due to his troubling knee. The Serb on the other hand has lost three of his ten matches played this year. The last loss was at Monte Carlo when Simon beat him 6-0 4-6 6-1.

Who is favourite - well I should not say who is but suffice to say that the Spainard has not lost a match at the ATP World Tour 500 clay-court tournament since 2003.

The match is scheduled for Friday 27 April 2012 at 13:30 GMT
