Ronda Rousey wins historic women's UFC debut

Rousey celebrates after UFC 157 women's bantamweight championship mixed martial arts match in Anaheim, Calif

Ronda Rousey and Liz Carmouche made history just by stepping into the UFC cage at Anaheim, California, USA. When Rousey recorded another savage victory with her signature move, she demonstrated why she could be a trailblazer in women's sports for years to come.

Rousey won the UFC's first women's bout Saturday night, beating Carmouche on an armbar with 11 seconds left in the first round of their bantamweight title fight of mixed martial arts match at UFC 157.

Rousey (7-0) defended her belt with her seemingly inevitable move, forcing Carmouche to tap out after bending back her arm. Rousey raised both arms in victory while flat on the canvas after the longest fight of the mixed martial artist's ascendant career.

"Is this real life right now? I'm not sure," said Rousey, a former judo star with just two years of pro MMA experience.

Rousey was awarded the equivalent of the bantamweight belt she won in the now-defunct Strikeforce before her first UFC fight, but quickly showed she deserved it.

Until the Brownlees, Reginald and Laurie Doherty were the last British brothers to win an Olympic event, taking the tennis doubles title in 1900 in Paris, although gold medals were not awarded at those games.

Alistair, 24, won the toughest event of London 2012 so comfortably he had time to grab a flag from the crowd and run the final 100 metres with it billowing above his head. He was so exhausted that he slowed to a walk before crossing the finishing line in Hyde Park, then turned to wait for his brother.

Iran, which won three gold medals in the Sydney Olympics 2000, is all set to make history at London this summer.

Historic Wimbledon Final 2012: Watch Live Federer vs Murray Free Streaming | 8 July Sunday

Wimbledon this year is into history making: In the Ladies's Singles title between Radwanksa and Serena Williams, being played Saturday afternoon, Serena is eyeing the title for the fifth time, while Radwanska is eyeing her maiden Wimbledon title this year and her country since 1939.

In the Men's Single event, Sunday 8 July is going to be a historic day at Wimbledon too, almost similar to the ladies' singles final: for on this day, two players are vying to make history - but only one may do so, though.

Two men: Andy Murray [left] - Roger Federer [right]
One Aim: Wimbledon Title Men's Single Event 2012
World no. 3 Swiss Roger Federer, who beat defending champion and world no.1 Novak Djokovic in the semi final, Friday marches into the Centre Court of Wimbledon on Sunday 8 July to for the eighth time to win the title for the seventh time and equal the record already held by British William Renshaw and American Pete Sempras.

British no.1 and world no.4 Andy Murray makes his maiden entry into the Wimbledon final and meets Federer to clinch the title and become first British to do so in 74 years since Bunny Austin in 1938.

Murray and Federer have known each other fifteen times since 2005, when they first played each other in Bangkok. Since then they have come a long way with Murray winning over the Swiss eight times. But despite the odds, Federer is being dubbed as a hot favourite to win the title despite being six years elder to Murray for his consistency, grip over the game and resolve. However, Murray has spark and power - and this brings two players facing each other: one with experience, the other with strength and support of home crowd.

Who wins? Well I keep my fingers crossed till the match ends this Sunday.

The historic final between Federer and Murray is scheduled for Sunday 8 July 2012 at the Centre Court

Guinness World Records' most unusual sporting champions

We normally see sports events that happen around us normally and most usually. There is excitement, uproar and fingers crossed when watching such 'normal' sports events, like for instance the Spain vs Italy Euro 2012 football final or Nadal and Sharapova crashing out unceremonially from the on going Wimbledon tennis championship.

But what about those bonking sports vents that are unusual, not seen or even heard by a majority of sports lovers, but found in the Guinness World Records?

Claudia Gomez shoots arrows using her feet - not hands [left] - Christopher Irmscher e ran the fastest 100m hurdles wearing swim fins [right]
There are sportsmen and athelets that do the undoables and create ripples into the sports history. some of such events I cae across at Daily Mail and thought of sharing with my viewers:

Veronica Torr who recorded the Fastest 100 Metre Hurdles Wearing Swim Fins - in 18.52 seconds - and Kenichi Ito, from Japan, who ran the Fastest 100m Running on All Fours in 18.58 seconds.
Meet Vittorio Innocente, who became the deepest cycling underwater world record holder in 2008.
Everyone knows that Jamaica’s Usain Bolt is the fastest man on two legs, covering 100m in 9.58 seconds, but how would he cope on all fours?  In November 2008 Japan’s Kenichi Ito recorded the Fastest 100m on All Fours in an astonishing 18.58 seconds; just 9 seconds longer than Bolt.
Weight lifters can take inspiration from 64-year-old John Evans who holds the 14-year record for the Heaviest Car Balanced on the Head. Back in May 1999 John from Derbyshire carried a Mini Cooper, weighing 159.6kg - 352lb - upon his head for over half a minute.
Claudia Gomez, is recorded for the farthest arrow shot using feet - not her hands.
Well these are just a few. Read and see more photos / video of these superb and unusual record holders in the world of sports and in the Guniness Book of World Records: Daily Mail

A resilient Nadal wins Roland Garros for the seventh time

The clash of the titans between world no.1 Serbian Novak Djokovic and world no.3 and defending champion Spaniard Rafael Nadal that finally started on Sunday finally culminated Monday afternoon on Court Philippe Chatrier at Roland Garros - French Open 2012 with Nadal winning over the Serbian 6-3,  6-4 6-3 2-6, 7-5.

After Nadal's win today over the Serb, he becomes the only man in the Roland Garros history to lift the silveware for the seventh time. Earlier last year, he had equalled the six times record of the legnedary tennis player Bjorn Borg.

The match was briefly interrupted by rain with Nadal leading 6-4, 5-3 The World No. 2 came back to win the last game of the set after play resume. And then for postponement of macth till Monday when then Nadal was leading 6-4 6-3 2-6 1-2* when the match referee called the players off court to be played on Monday.

When the match started Monday, it was still windy and heavily cloudy and when the fourth set score reached 4-4, Djokovic was seen disturbed by the wind. However at 5-5 suddenly the sun came out brightening up the court and the players' hope to finish the match. And then Nadal struck to take next two games to win the match 6-4 6-3 2-6, 7-5.

Djokovic and Nadal with the trophies
While Nadal could still get this honour another time, Djokovic will have to start afresh to bag all four Grand Slams - an uphill task and one year from hence.

Now the clay master must prepare himself for the green grass of Wimbledon which is the next Grand Slam, where Djokovic is the defending champion. But for Nadal, switching from red clay to green grass will be an uphill task as he feels much at home on the red clay.

Would Djokovic take his revenge at Wimbledon?
