World no.2 Serbian Novak Djokovic beat unseeded Austrian Melzer 6-1, 6-2 to reach the Beijing Open tennis championship to meet 29th ranked German Florian Mayer Saturday morning in Beijing.

Novak Djokovic has met the German thrice in his career and has overpowered him much too easily. They last met in Wimbledon this year when the Serbian won over the German 6-4, 6-1, 6-4.

In his last ten games, Djokovic has lost only once against Andy Murray in the US Open, the last Grand Slam of the year, in a very tough contest spread over five sets. The Olympic gold medalist British Andy Murray finally won over Djokovic 7-6(10) 7-5 2-6 3-6 6-2.

Mayer on the other hand has lost thrice in his last ten matches, losing to Seppi 7-5, 6-2 at Metz, France. Mayer moves to the semis, beating local hope Ze Zhang 6-3 6-4.

World no.2 Russian Maria Sharapova plays against Chinese ranked eighth Na Li in the Beijing Open Saturday morning.

Sharapova and Li are new to each other as they played eleven times against each other since they first met in Australian Open in 2005. And of these eleven times, Sharapova has had a winning edge of 7-4 against the Chinese.

Sharapova beat Hercog 6-0, 6-2 to face Na Li, while Na Li defeated Peng 4-6 6-2 7-6(3).

Sharapova has had a good winning tennis lately, losing all grand slams except the French Open which she won. Whether she makes it to Beijing top is to be seen as she sails forward. But Li stands in her way for Saturday morning.
