British cyclist Bradley Wiggins sustains injuries in road accident

Bradley Wiggins, the first British to ever win the Tour de France earlier this year, sustained injuries as Vauxhall Astra driven by a women collided with the cyclist.

The 32 years old Olympic gold medal winner has his ribs damaged in the accident, though his conditions is not life threatening in the hospital.

The cyclist was riding his bike near his home in Lancashire at the time of the accident.

While Andy Murray's dream to become the first Britain to win the Wimbledon title in 73 years and also for his first could not materialize recently, the there was a blanket of sadness all over Britain.

But now there are good tidings for Britain as Bradley Wiggins becomes the first British rider to win the Tour de France. as compatriot Mark Cavendish claimed a fourth consecutive final-stage victory Wiggins, 32, finished in the chasing peloton in Sunday's final stage around the streets of Paris with a winning margin of three minutes and 21 seconds.

Fellow Brit and Team Sky team-mate Chris Froome consolidated second place with Italy's Vincenzo Nibali third.

Bradley Wiggins on verge of winning Tour de France

For Bradley Wiggins, the champagne on the Champs-Elysees is about to flow.

He all but locked up the Tour de France title with a tour-de-force performance to win the final time trial - putting him on the cusp of becoming the first Briton to win cycling's showpiece race.

Wiggins blew away the field in Saturday's race against the clock in Stage 19, his second Tour victory this year in a time trial, his specialty.

"I really wanted to go out there and finish with a bang, and fortunately I was able to do that," said Wiggins, noting he realized the breadth of emotion when he spotted his mechanic in tears.
