Waqar Younis included in ICC Hall of Fame

Waqar Younis has recently been included in ICC Hall of Fame. He was officially inducted into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame before the start of the first Twenty20 International between Pakistan and Sri Lanka at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai Sports City on Wednesday (December 11).

Waqar received his commemorative cap from International Cricket Council Chief Executive David Richardson in front of a large and appreciative crowd. He now becomes the 70th male member and fifth Pakistani after Hanif Mohammad, Imran Khan, Javed Miandad and Wasim Akram to be inducted into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame.

The former captain of Pakistan team and fast bowler, nicknamed 'The Burewala Express', is famously known as one half of 'The Two Ws' - a moniker for the fast bowling pair of Wasim Akram and Waqar

The 42-year-old, born in Vehari, Punjab, Pakistan, is a famed exponent of reverse swing - he claimed 373 wickets from 87 Tests and 416 scalps from 262 One-Day Internationals.

Waqar's Test figures bear ample testimony to his brilliance -- he registered 22 hauls of five wickets or more in an innings, and, on five occasions, took 10 wickets or more in a match. He also boasted the best strike-rate of any bowler with more than 200 wickets in Tests during his playing days -- a record only recently beaten by Dale Steyn.


His best bowling performance in a Test came almost 20 years ago, when he registered match figures of 13-135 against Zimbabwe in first Test in Karachi, having taken 7-91 and 6-44.

Glenn McGrath inducted into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame

The International Cricket Council today inducted Glenn McGrath into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame during the lunch interval of the third Test match between Australia and Sri Lanka in Sydney.

McGrath becomes the 68th male member of the Hall of Fame and joins fellow 2012-13 inductees West Indian Brian Lara and England's Enid Bakewell in being recognized by the ICC and the living members of the Hall of Fame.

While Lara and Bakewell were inducted in September at the LG ICC Awards, McGrath was inducted at his home ground of the SCG by the ICC President, Alan Isaac, along with Cricket Australia chairman Wally Edwards in front of a large and appreciative crowd. A fourth and final inductee of 2012-13 will be announced later this year.

McGrath, who was born in in Dubbo, New South Wales in 1970, represented Australia in 124 Test matches between 1993 and 2007 claiming 563 Test wickets at an average of 21.64, and he is still taken more Test wickets than any other seam bowler currently in the game or retired.

Name of Once Tennis Star Bob Hewitt stripped from Hall of Fame

For many Bob Hewitt, has been a legendary tennis star who had to his credit all Grand Slam doubles titles,  both the Men's Doubles Grand Slam titles as well as the Mixed Doubles Grand Slam titles (U.S. Open, Wimbledon, Australian Open, French Open). He has also been central to South Africa's only Davis Cup title in 1974. Besides, Bob and seven singles titles and 65 doubles.

Bob began his tennis career in 1958 as an amateur  turned professional in 1970 and retired from active tennis in 1983. However, he continued to extend tennis lessons to young tennis enthusiasts including children.

During his career he rose to no.6 ranking of the tennis world in me's singles in 1962 and no.1 in the doubles ranking also in 1962. For these achievements, his name was included in the coveted Tennis Hall of Fame.

But this was the Mr Hyde face of Bob Witt. Going over his Dr Jackal face, he has been a molester and sex abuser of his female tennis students whom he coached and sexually harassed in private tennis sessions and lessons. Nearly a dozen women in South Africa and the United States have accused Hewitt of sexual misconduct from the 1970s to the 1990s. Some of the victims were as young as 11 and 12, while he was coaching them.

Hewitt, 72 presently runs a citrus farm in the Eastern Cape and has remained largely silent on the sex abuse. But a thorough investigation by the World Hall of Fame has found of involved in dubious activities including sexual molestation and harassment of his students  and has on 16 November 2012 been stripped of his accolade in the International Tennis Hall of Fame and from this day on his legacy ceases to exist in the Hall of Fame. His plaque will be removed from the Hall of Fame and his name will be removed from the official website.

Thus ends the glory of a Hall of Famer in shame.

Brian Lara dedicates Hall of Fame honour to father

Brian Lara, who was inducted into the ICC's Hall of Fame at the awards ceremony in Colombo on Friday evening, dedicated the honour to his late father Bunty Lara, who died before his son played a Test. Lara also credited his brother Winston and sister Agnes during the function at the Water's Edge Resort, saying they'd played important roles in his development as a cricketer.

In a moving statement, Lara said:

"This person you see today before you accepting this Hall of Fame honour is someone he [Bunty Lara] moulded. He ensured that I had everything I needed to succeed as a cricketer and in life, even in trying times. He made a special effort to make sure everything was there."

Santo elected to Hall of Fame

Ron Santo always kept rooting for the causes dearest to him — for his Chicago Cubs to win the World Series, for doctors to find a cure for diabetes and for him to reach the Hall of Fame.

On Monday, Cooperstown finally came calling. The barrel-chested third baseman who clicked his heels in victory was elected to the Hall, overwhelmingly chosen by the Veterans Committee nearly a year to the day after he died hoping for this very honor.
