The perennial contenders of the future Los Angeles Dodgers face  NL's perennial contender St. Louis Cardinals in the on going National League Championship Series Saturday night tonight.

The match is likely to feature some interesting pitching matchups early on. While the Dodgers have aces Zack Greinke and Clayton Kershaw set to go in Games 1 and 2, the Cardinals will send out the relatively inexperienced duo of Joe Kelly and Michael Wacha, respectively. It's worth noting that Wacha has sniffed near-no-hitters in his previous two starts.

For St. Louis, it's their eighth NLCS appearance since 2000. They're 3-4 in those series, including World Series victories in 2006 and 2011. Not that any of the matters now. The Cardinals have a rookie replacing Allen Craig at first base in Matt Adams. They have six rookies on the pitching staff. It's a different make-up, but much of that old Redbird resilience remains.

Baseball star Andruw Jones arrested for 'battering wife' on Christmas

While the world made merry on the Christmas day, star baseball player Andruw Jones elected to beat and 'batter' his wife of then years instead.

Police say they were called to Andruw Jones' home in a wealthy suburb of Atlanta and found him fighting with his wife Nicole Derick.

The 35 years old 'star' was arrested and booked into Gwinnett County jail outside Atlanta, Georgia, about 3.45 AM today on a charge of simple assault. However, he was released seven hours later on $2,400 bail.

No further details are available on the subject.

As for Jones' career, he is one of the premier players in the big leagues, who broke into the majors with the Atlanta Braves in 1996 and won 10 consecutive Gold Gloves from 1998-07 as their center fielder.

The New York Public Library has a treasure of old books and photographs that can now be termed as relics of the past.

Recently the Business Insider has 'unearhted' some of the unique and historic photos of base ball players that may mesmerize those who love baseball. One may have had heard names of some of the legendary baseball players - but may not have seen their photos.

And let me tell you it is mesmerizing to see photos of Deacon McGuire of the Philadelphia Quakers, Tommy McCarthy of the Boston Reds, Ed Andrews (1884-1891),  The The Knickerbocker and Excelsior baseball clubs in 1858, Harry Lyons with Billy Tailer Trainer (1887-1893) and many more.

Yankees, Mariners Reportedly Swap Top Talents

The Seattle Mariners agreed to trade right-hander Michael Pineda to the New York Yankees for catcher Jesus Montero on Friday, a swap involving two of baseball's top young talents.

A person familiar with the deal confirmed the trade to The Associated Press. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because no one was authorized to discuss the trade that will be completed pending physicals.

As part of the trade, the Yankees also sent 24-year-old pitcher Hector Noesi to Seattle for 19-year-old righty Jose Campos.

Santo elected to Hall of Fame

Ron Santo always kept rooting for the causes dearest to him — for his Chicago Cubs to win the World Series, for doctors to find a cure for diabetes and for him to reach the Hall of Fame.

On Monday, Cooperstown finally came calling. The barrel-chested third baseman who clicked his heels in victory was elected to the Hall, overwhelmingly chosen by the Veterans Committee nearly a year to the day after he died hoping for this very honor.
