Thursday tonight, in the ladies singles event, world no.2 Victoria Azarenka from Belarus plays her quarter final match against 48th ranked Slovakian Daniela Hantuchova at the Arthur Ashe stadium.

Azarenka having lost her fist set against ana Ivanovic in the fourth round, recovered dramatically and won the match 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 to qualify for the quarters - and brings her closer to her first ever US Open title.

Hantuchova, who is six years older to Azarenka has met the Belarusian four times prior to their date tonight and the result has been even 2-2 since they first met at San Diego in 2007. However, the last two matches have been won by Azarenka - the latest at the Indian Wells early this year.

Would Hantuchova be a threat to Azarenka? Well she has reached the quarters - but her matches have all been against up and comers ranked outside the top 80. Alison Riske, who Hantuchova defeated 6-3, 5-7, 6-2 in the fourth round, was her first top 100 opponent. So there is little doubt if she could pose any serious threat to world no.2.

The last match between the two was at Brimingham in 2011, which Hantuchova won by 6-7(2) 6-3 6-2.

Who wins tonight? Well both have equal chances and no one is being dubbed as favourite. Although Hantuchova has had an upper edge for winning their last match, Ivanovic seems equally prepared to taker her on. Ivanovic's straight sets win the second round over America’s Vania King shows she has overcame her injury for which she retired in the Indian Wells.
