Pakistan women beat India to win maiden BFAME bridge crown

Pakistan women’s team created history on Tuesday night when they won their first-ever title in 17th Bridge Federation of Asia and Middle East (BFAME) by beating favorites India 94-53 International Match Points (IMPs) in the final in Ahmedabad on 12 June.

Rubina Agha’s Pakistan team maintained their sterling show by whipping experienced India team in 17th edition of the championship and thus qualified for Venice Cup to be held in Bali (Indonesia) in September, according to details made available by Mind Sports Association of Pakistan on Wednesday. 

It was history making performance as Pakistan women team was consisted of three generations - Grand mother Qudsia Doosa, daughter Rubina Hai and grand daughter Fatima Raza. Other members of the team included Roshan Ara Bokhari and Zeenat Azwer. They beat Indian squad comprising Hema Deora, Marianne, Rita, Bharati, Tutu and Asha.

Pakistan team will be returning to Karachi on Thursday afternoon after taking part in the championship.

ESPN Considering Subsidizing Mobile Data Plans To Help Stream Its Content

Live streaming is one of the most favourite feature of PCs that has now also been available on smartphones. But these are generally very costly, specially when it comes to smartphones.

ESPN, a major giant in offering live on-line viewing, is therefore reported 'considering' offering a better solution for its customers so they can watch videos on its service without worrying about being charged overage fees.

According to The Wall Street Journal, ESPN has reportedly spoken to at least one major U.S. carrier about subsidizing data plans in order to guarantee its streaming content would not result in data plan overage charges if viewed on a device that has a tiered data plan.

It is speculated that the way ESPN would subsidize its users’ data plans would either be paying carriers outright, or giving them a piece of their advertising revenue.

If ESPN is able to strike a deal with at least one of the major U.S. carriers that offer tiered data plans, this could certainly make the other one want to also move in on offering ESPN’s deal to its customers. Or, AT&T and Verizon can just end the nonsense of tiered data subscriptions and go back to the good ole days of unlimited data plans.

BBC Sport launches international smartphone app for Android

Good news for sport lovers!!

BBC Sport has recently launched a free mobile app for Android users outside the UK. The app  provides latest news and live text coverage of major sports.

The launching of the sport app is well timed and coincides with the the climax of the football season and exciting summer sporting events such as the Ashes and Wimbledon.

The official BBC Sport app is the sports fan’s guide to live sport news, stats, fixtures and results, curated by the BBC’s team of sport journalists. The Main features of the sport app are as under:

• Home screen displaying the top stories across the world of sport.
• A page for Football, Formula 1, Cricket, Rugby Union, Rugby League, Tennis, Golf
• A page for all the other main sports, plus major events
• Daily live text commentaries from BBC journalists

Virgin London Marathon to Go On as per Schedule

Despite the tragedy that struck the Boston Marathon, the organizers are firm to hold the Virgin London Marathon right on schedule Saturday.

It may be rec alled that outr of the 25,000 participants of the Boston Marathon, 374 were British runners.

A 30-second silence will be observed before the London Marathon kicks off to show solidarity with the Boston runners and as a mark of sympathy and condolence for those who lost their lives in the twin attacks near the finish line at Boston.

'Runner registration will take place as planned, with David Weir CBE opening EXPO at 11 am on Wednesday April 17, and we look forward to welcoming our runners there,' says a statement from the race organizers of Virgin London Marathon.
