World Cup 2022 likely in Qatar Winters

A 54 member UEFA sitting has agreed in principal that World Cup 2022 can be held in Qatar Winters.

Qatar, where summer temepratures soar to 50C, the alternative can wina World Cup venue for the Gulf State in winters instead.

"The World Cup cannot be played in Qatar in the summer," said FIFA vice-president Jim Boyce. "Everyone was certainly in agreement about that."

Foregoing in view, Boyce, a former president of the Irish Football Association, added that the debate was now whether the tournament would be played in January of 2022 or in November and December of that year.

However, UEFA favours January so that it does not impact on the Champions League, but British associations want to ensure their domestic festive fixtures are protected.

It may be added that FIFA's medical chief, Michel D'Hooghe, had already advised that the risks posed to supporters by extreme heat were too great, while FIFA president Sepp Blatter admitted the governing body may have made a "mistake" in awarding the competition to Qatar.

As for the injuries, Bayern Munich midfielder Javi Martinez has recovered from a bruised toe, but they shall still be missing striker Claudio Pizarro (illness), plus defenders Jerome Boateng (suspended) and Holger Badstuber (knee). In the Gunners' camp, left-back Nacho Monreal is ineligible and Kieran Gibbs is out with a thigh injury, but fellow defender Carl Jenkinson comes back into the squad after a one-game suspension.

So would the Gunners be able to outscore the Germans? Well the continuous warning from Heynckes that his players be  wary of opposition that "pose a great danger" to them, makes some wonder about the outcome in Gunners' favour.

Europa League likely to be scrapped and replaced with Champions League having 64 clubs

European football's governing body UEFA is considering ditching the Europa League in favour of extending the Champions League from 32 to 64 teams.

"We're discussing it. We will make a decision in 2014. Nothing is decided yet," UEFA president Michel Platini told French newspaper Ouest-France.

The decision is likely for the reason that the Europa League has been criticized by some since it replaced the UEFA Cup in 2009 and exists in the shadow of the more lucrative Champions League. and the fact that the Champions League is far more financially beneficial, for UEFA and the clubs concerned, than Europe's second-tier tournament.

An extension of the group stages to a 64-team format could see seven English clubs qualify for the competition rather than the current four, and increase the number of Scottish teams participating from two to five.

UEFA is looking at changing the format of European competitions from 2015.

UEFA: Suspended Chelsea Captain Terry may lift Trophy

Suspended Chelsea captain John Terry would be allowed to lift the Champions League trophy if his side defeat Bayern Munich in the final on 19 May, UEFA has confirmed to BBC Sport.

Terry is banned after being sent off for violent conduct in the semi-final second leg against Barcelona.

UEFA's rules only prevent suspended players from sitting on the bench. The governing body also said it will not change its rules to let six other suspended players feature.

It means Terry will have to watch the final from the stands, along with Raul Meireles, Ramires and Branislav Ivanovic, all of whom are banned after being booked against Barcelona.
