Djokovic wins China but loses the World to Nadal

So finally Rafael Nadal climbs to the top of the world after he lost the honour in 2011 as he played the China Open final against reining world no.1 Serbia Novak Djokovic Sunday.

It seemed Nadal was more interested in winning the world no.1 ranking rather than winning China. And the result of the final of China Open showed as he lost the final to Djokovic 6-3, 6-4. The win was the fourth consecutive win of Djokovic.

For Djokovic it was both achievement and a big loss. "I wanted to win against Nadal, who has been the best player so far in 2013. It's important for my confidence."

Though Nadal clinches the world no.1 ranking from Djokovic, he found it difficult to contain Djokovic from winning the China Open title for the fourth time. He said: "I couldn't see a way to stop him and he was too strong for me.

Rafael Nadal v Tomáš Berdych : China Open - Semis | Watch Free Live Streaming - 5 October

So it is the semis at Bejing - world no.2 Rafael Nadal is all set to meet world no. 4 Czech Tomáš Berdych.

Nadal who is eyeing the world no.1 title is moving closer to his dreams of reaching final and beating third time Beijing champion Serbian Novak Djokovic.

However, in the meantime there are hurdles Nadal should cross as Berdych will look to delay Nadal’s return to the top of the ATP Rankings when he plays with Nadal for the 19th time on Saturday. Berdych trails their Head2Head series 3-15, including three losses this year. In their head to head status, Nadal remains unbeaten in their last fifteen encounters. Nadal last beat Berdych at Cincinnati this year in the semis 7-5 7-6(4).

In the meantime, Rafael Nadal is one win away from returning to World No. 1 ranking and seems in no mood to let this opportunity slip by easily. Already the Spaniard is looking to win his 11th title of the season. In 13 tournaments, he has only failed to reach the final once, losing in the first round at Wimbledon this year. His triumphs include Roland Garros, the US Open and five ATP World Tour Masters 1000 trophies.

This semi final is therefore very important for Nadal - If he wins this semi-final, he will return to World No. 1 for the first time since 3rd July 2011. Should Nadal lose before the final, Novak Djokovic must still win his fourth China Open crown to stay at the top for a 102nd week.

The match is scheduled for Saturday (05 October) 04:30 (GMT 0).
