World No.2 Russian Maria Sharapova has her dream nearing of clinching the women single title to complete her career Grand Slam as she plays the semi final of Roland Garros against 4th seeded left handed Czech Petra Kvitova Thursday on Court Philippe Chatrier.

In her quartefinal match, Roland Garros title aspirant Russian Maria Sharapova beat 23rd ranked Estonian Kaia Kanepi in an easy run of 6-2, 6-3. On the other hand, Yaroslava Shvedova, who earlier surprised and shocked the defending champion Chinese Na Li, was beaten by fourth ranked Czech Petra Kvitova. Having lost first set to Shvedova 3-6, Petra Kvitova came back to life and beat the Kazakh 6-2, 6-4.

Both Sharapova and Kvitova have met five times in their career since they first met at Memphis in 2010 when Sharapova beat Kvitova 6-4, 6-3. In other four matches since, both share a twice win over each other. Sharapova last met Kvitova at Stuttgart when she beat her 6-4, 7-6(3).

Maria Sharapova is in her best form as she has not lost any of her last ten matches, while Kvitova has lost two at Madrid and Rome.

Sharapova remains hot favourite for the day.

The match is scheduled for Thursday, 7 June 2012 at 15:30 GMT on Court Philippe Chatrier.

Maria Sharapova - Petra Kvitova into Roland Garros Semi Finals

In the two quarterfinal matches of women singles played at Roland Garros Wednesday, Sharapova and Kvitova have qualified for the semi finals.

In her quartefinal match, World no.2 and Roland Garros title aspirant Russian Maria Sharapova beat 23rd ranked Estonian Kaia Kanepi in an easy run of 6-2, 6-3. Maria is sailing comfortably towards her goal to complete her Grand Slam this year.

In the other semi final, Yaroslava Shvedova, who earlier surprised and shocked the defending champion Chinese Na Li, was beaten by fourth ranked Czech Petra Kvitova. Having lost first set to Shvedova 3-6, Petra Kvitova came back to life and beat the Kazakh 6-2, 6-4.

It may be added that 6th ranked Australian Smantha Stosur and 21st ranked Italian Sara Errani have already qualified for the semi finals.

Now Stosur faces Errani, while Sharapova will play Kvitova.

World Number Two Russian Maria Sharapova faces 3rd ranked Czech Petra Kvitova at the second semi final of the WTA Stuttgart Saturday.

Maria Sharapova, having lost the first set beat the US Open winner Australian Sam Stosur in a three set marathon quarterfinal match 6-7, 7-5 and 7-5. Sharapova's opponent today Petra Kvitova beat A Kerber in straight sets 6-4, 6-4 in the other quarterfinal Friday.

Both Kvitova and Sharapova have played each other four times with a 2-2 win by each. Sharapova last overcame Kvitova in the australian Open earlier this year 6-2, 3-6 and 6-4, while Kvitova last had an edge over Sharapova in Tokoyo in 2011 when Sharapova retired in the first set at 4-3.

The second semi final between the  Kvitova  and Sharapova at Stuttgart is scheduled fr Saturday 28 April 2012 at 16:30 GMT.

Maria Sharapova beat Samantha Stosur in Stuttgart quarter-final

Australian Samantha Stosur was beaten in a marathon three-set match by world No.2 Russian Maria Sharapova in the quarter-finals of the the Stuttgart WTA claycourt tournament.

Sharapova needed more than three hours to complete the comeback 6-7 (5-7) 7-6 (7-4) 7-5 victory against US Open winner Stosur to reach tomorrow''s semi-finals.

Having won the first set tie-breaker, world No.5 Stosur served for the match at 5-4 in the second only for Sharapova to hit back and claim the win after three hours, one minute on court.

In the fourth quarterfinal, P Kvitova beat A Kerber in straight sets 6-4, 6-4.

In the two semi finals being played Saturday 28th April, World Number One Victoria Azarenka meets 4th ranked Polish Radwanska, while Russian Sharapova will face 3rd ranked P. Kvitova.
