Africa Cup of Nations - The Goalless Draw Day 1

Poster credit MTN Football

The Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) football that kicked off Saturday 19 January at Johannesburg  was a disappointing both for the teams, and for the fans.

The two matches played on the Day-1 ended in a goalless draw - what a pity.

It was pity to see the host South Africa helpless to score even a single goal against Cape Verde which was playing its maiden match in the Afcon Saturday. Bafana Bafana struggled to overcome their tag as a side who struggle to score goals, failing to create clear-cut chances in the Johannesburg rain. Cape Verde had the best opportunity of the game, with striker Platini dragging his close-range shot badly wide.

The result, however, gives the Blue Sharks their first Nations Cup point.

The second match between Angola and Morocco was yet another disappointment  The goalless draw was not something for which fans had thronged the arena.

Although semblance of effort to goal was seen when Moroccan Younes Belhanda almost forced a winner as he dribbled through the Angolan defence, but dragged narrowly wide at the near post. Likewise, Angolan debutant Guilherme Afonso nearly punished Morocco keeper Nadir Lamyaghri's fumble, only to lob wide.

So that was about Day-1, a goalless opening.

Olympic Soccer: Honduras vs Morocco - Watch Live Streaming | 26 July 2012

In the Group D group matches at London Olympics, the soccer teams of Honduras and Morocco face each other at Thursday at Hampden Park in Glasgow. With the match between the two, the men's soccer  gets kicks off Thursday.

Both teams are considered rather outsiders in the Group D, and will strive hard to outscore each other to make their space in the Group D. The other two teams in Group D are Spain and Japan.

Morocco and Honduras have never played each other and it is quite difficult to predict who will cash on the opportunity today. It is the seventh Moroccon appearance at Olympics. The only time Morocco reached the knockout stages of the Olympics was in 1972.

Honduras on the other hands are in Olympics games for the third time but did not make any worthwhile impression. They have never won a medal at Olympics, so it is a chance for them to move on, if they really can.

The match is scheduled for Thursday, 26 July 2012 at 11:00 GMT
