Jacques Kallis scores 45th Test Century in his Farewell Match

Jacques Kallis celebrates his 45th Test century in his final match against India at Durban

South Africa's Jacques Kallis, one of the  greatest all-rounders, scored his 45th and last test century in his farewell test match against India at Durban.

The 38-year-old posted a defiant 115 runs on Sunday as South Africa piled up 500 against India in the second Test of the series in Durban.

This century brings him at par Barry Richards, PGV van der Bijl and BL Irvine to have scored a century in the last test match for South Africa.

His 45th century is next only to master blaster Sachin Tendulkar's 51 Test centuries. This is his 7th century against India. He scored 100 runs off 273 balls. Also, among those players who have played more than 100 Test matches, Kallis is the first to end his career with a century.

Kallis has also overtaken Rahul Dravid as the third-highest Test scorer with 13289 runs.

Misbah ul Haq breaks unique record held by  Virat Kohli [Photo]

Pakistan lost the 2nd ODI by 2 wickets against Sri Lanka - but captain Misbah ul Haq broke a unique record held by Indian cricketer Virat Kohli at Dubai.

Misbah, Pakistani captain, snatched the unique record from Indian Batsman Virat Kholi during the 2nd one-day International (ODI) against Sri Lanka at Dubai International Stadium. As a Captain, Misbah ul Haq has scored 1,282 runs so far in 2013 after he managed to score another fifty in the match yesterday.

Misbah is now the top scoring batsman in year 2013 with 1,282 runs while Kohli takes the second position with 1,268 runs.

Misbah is now just a century back to reach Sachin’s record, thereby setting a new record in his long batting career. Sachin Tendulkar had scored 13 centuries in a row playing 32 innings in year 2007.

Howzat!! South Africa cripples Pakistan for 49 in their first innings

When Pakistan sent back the entire South African team for 'mere'253 runs on the Day-1 of the first test match at Johannesburg's Wanderers stadium, many hailed Pakistan's bowlers superb performance, specially Hafeez who bagged four wickets for just 16 runs including one maiden over.

But they did not know what was coming for Pakistan.

Although Pakistan started their first innings on the first day and were 6 for no loss, the Day-2 was not only costlier, it was the deadliest of all previous days of Pakistan cricket history.

On Day-2, Pakistan had lost three wickets that of Hafeez, Jamshed and Younis for 12. Then it looked Pakistan had stabilized till the score reached 36 when Azhar went back to pavilion. And then there was no ending as the entire team was sent packing back to pavilion for just 49 runs - Pakistan's lowest ever total of an innings.

DW Steyn bagged six wickets for just 8 runs with SIX maiden overs of the total 8.1 overs he bowled.

Pakistan's earlier lowest score was 59 against Australia in 2002-2003 at Sharjah - Australia won by an innings and 198 runs.

Pakistan now assumes a position between Australia's 47 runs (scored in the second innings against South Africa at Newlands 2011-2012) and Zimbabwe's 51 (scored in their first innings against New Zealand in 2011-2012).

It may be added here for information that South Africa ranks second in the lowest score of 30 after 26 of New Zealand.

The match can be viewed live from the links given here.

Messi with 82 goals all set to breaking German legend Gerd Mueller's record

Lionel Messi having scored 82 goals in 2012 is all set to break the German legend Gerd Mueller’s all-time record of 85 goals set in 1972.

German legend Gerd Mueller [left - 85 goals in 1972] - Lionel Messi [Right - 82 goals in 2012 and scoring!!]

Mueller’s previous record of 66 goals in 74 appearances in European Cups was exceeded by Raúl in the 2010 campaign while playing for the German side Schalke 04. Now, Mueller’s record of 85 goals (1972), the most goals scored  in a year, is in the danger of being equaled or even superseded by Messi. Messi is now trailing Mueller's record by three goals.

It may be added that the young blooded Argentinian Lionel Messi recently superseded Pelé's record of 75 goals made way back in 1958.

But Mueller’s record will stand for a little longer after Barcelona decided to rest Messi in the King’s Cup against  Alaves.

Clarke set to beat Yousuf’s 2006 record

Michael Clarke’s recent performances have earned him comparisons to the Aussie great Donald Bradman, which is considered the highest praise that can be bestowed on a batsman.

To have actually outdone the batting master, as Michael Clarke did on Thursday on the Adelaide Oval ground that Bradman called home for much of his career, summoned up special plaudits.

But that is not where it stops for Clarke in this brilliant year for the Australia captain – he is also set to tackle Pakistani batsman Mohammad Yousuf’s 2006 record of most runs in a year. Yousuf  over took Sir Viv Richards’ record, which had been unbroken for 30 years, during the third Test between Pakistan and West Indies in Karachi.

With three Tests – one more against South Africa and two against Sri Lanka – remaining before the end of 2012, Clarke could yet break Yousuf’s record of 1788 runs in a calendar year.

-->

The Australia captain’s unbeaten 224 on the opening day of the second Test against South Africa at the Adelaide Oval made him the first batsman to score four double centuries in a calendar year.

At close of play on Thursday with Australia on 482 for five, Clarke had batted for more than 43 hours and scored 1,265 runs at an average of 140.56 in 2012.

The match broke the previous longest match of 48 games, played between Fernando Gonzalez and Taylor Dent in Athens Olympics in 2004. Gonzalez won the bronze after winning the match 6-4 2-6 16-14 in a then-record three hours 25 minutes.

Tsonga beat Milos Raonic  6-3 3-6 25-23, which was really colossal and long match - setting a new Olympic record of the longest match - though Tsonga will not get a medal for this feat.
