Farewell 2-1 win by Manchester United for Sir Alex

Sir Alex Ferguson's last match as Manchester United manager brought him a memorable win with a late goal at Old Trafford Sunday yesterday.

When the Red Devils met the Swans, the opened the score in the 39th minute when Hernandez scored the first goal for the Devils in the 39th minute. But it was equalized in the 49th minute by Michu.

Thereafter, it seemed as Sir Alex's farewell will end with a drawn match - but perhaps this was not that something that the Red Devils wanted and continued their level best to win the match for their 71 years old out going manager.

And then just minutes away form the final whistle, Ferdinand struck in the 87th minute to bring a 2-1 victory over the Swansea and pay tribute to Sir Alex - who goes away much satisfied and happy with his farewell win and emotional tribute.

In fact Rio Ferdinand's first goal for five years gave Ferguson three points against Swansea City in his 723rd game at "The Theatre Of Dreams" following the announcement of his retirement after 26 years at the club.

And then there went away the Scot in an atmosphere of celebration and sentimentality, the mood was captured as Frank Sinatra's "My Way" and Nat King Cole's "Unforgettable" played out over the public address system in tribute to Ferguson.

Rooney wants revenge from Sunderland fans who gloated when City won the title

It was after a win at Sunderland on the last day of the last season that United discovered they had lost the Barclays Premier League title to City courtesy of an injury-time goal by Sergio Aguero and Rooney has never forgotten the reaction of the home fans.

Now when the Red Devils meet Sunderland Saturday afternoon today, Wayne Rooney is determined to shake off a midweek virus to face the one team he says he wants to beat more than any other this season.

The Manchester United centre forward would normally ring games against Liverpool, Everton, Chelsea and neighbours City when the fixtures are announced each summer but this time he had a special eye on Saturday’s visit to Old Trafford of Martin O’Neill’s Sunderland team.

Even Red Devil's manager Sir Alex has shown his disappointment on the attitude of the Sunderland fans. Daily Mail quotes Sir Alex in saying:
‘What their fans did was disappointing when you think of the number of players we’ve given Sunderland. We gave them the players that got them promoted, Jonny Evans and Danny Simpson. But that’s fans, isn’t it? Winning the game is important and it’s time for us to kick on and make sure we maintain the lead at the top of the league.’

Manchester United gearing up to beat City this Sunday in Manchester Derby

Although it was a jolt for the Red Devils to bow to CFR Cluj 1-0 in their latest encounter  they say they were under strength and 'resting' for the Manchester Derby coming Sunday.

And already Sir Alex Ferguson has claimed it would be one of Manchester United's greatest results if they were to beat Manchester City on Sunday. However he wants his team to get their act together, lest the Citizens surprise them as the Cluj did. Sir Alex has all the reason to be worrisome since his 200th match as in charge of United did not bring him victory.

The Red Devils' manager told MUTV: 'If we win [on Sunday] it will be one of our best ever results. They are a really good, powerful team with massive players.

'It won't be easy and if we defend like we did at Reading we'll be in trouble. The important thing for us is to take lessons from the mistakes we're making and do something about it. We need to find a solution.'

It may be added that the Citizens were heavily criticized for their limp displays in Europe this season and Ferguson warned his rivals that the Champions League will 'break' them unless they step up to its more competitive nature.
