It was a great day today for the Pakistan hockey team to beat the world no.1 and the Olympic Champions Germany 2-1 in the quarterfinals of the Champions Trophy being played at Melbourne, Australia.
The stunning 2-1 win over Germany takes the Greenshirts into the semi finals of the Championship. Today's win is the first time since 2004 that Pakistan Hockey teams gas reached so close to hunt for a medal at the Champions Trophy.
The defeat today is the second consecutive time that the Germans will not be playing the semis at the annual event.
The credit for the win goes to Shakeel Abbasi who fielded both goals for Pakistan and brought victory against the Germans. Moritz Furste of Germany scored the lone goal for his team.
Pakistan will take on the winner of the Netherlands vs. New Zealand match in Saturday’s semi-final.
