Wawrinka crashes out of Paris right in the first round

It was too early perhaps for world number 3 Stan Wawrinka to bid farewell to Paris and become the first major casualty at the hands of a 41st ranked Garcia-Lopez right in the first round of Roland Garros yesterday.

Having lost the first set to Garcia-Lopez 4-6, Wawrinka did try to comeback into the game by winning the second set 7-5, but Garcia-Lopez proved too good for him and beat him 6-2 and even 6-0 to move on to perhaps surprise others.

Having won the Australian Open at the start of the year, a confident and rather aggressive Wawrinka was looking to grab the French title to win bot Grand Slams in the same year as did Jim Courier in 1992.

Garcia-Lopez, ranked 41st, now faces France's Adrian Mannarino in round two.
